Viper.Sw wrote:I have solely said that the focus on reality is not as existing as it used to.
I would very strongly disagree with you on that point. Lets look at some facts from the more recent versions of PR:
4km maps are now the focus for future mapping projects, 1km are no longer accepted at all and 2km have to be of a very high standard to get into the mod. This allows for far more realistic environments etc.
Progress has been made on implementing 128 player servers into the mod, with one such server active in a testing capacity most nights of the week. Along with 128 players being a possibility, further developments have allowed for the use of 8 man squads.
The PR team have consistently and continuously brought in high quality, high accuracy models based on real life vehicles and weapons. Recent examples include the Kiowa Warrior, AAV, MTLB, BTR-80, PKM, Type-95 series and the AK series to name but a few.
Deviation has been introduced and fine-tuned over several versions to produce a fairly accurate representation of accuracy.
The spawn system has been refined so that players can no longer magically spawn on a pile of rucksacks endlessly, and player constructed assets like tank traps, foxholes, TOW launchers and even temporary bridges are more prolific than ever.
Thermal imaging has been implemented on all relevant vehicles who use the system in real life.
3D scopes have been developed so when scoped it no longer looks like you're looking through a hole in a big black canvas.
The medic system has progressively been made harsher, firstly with the introduction of resuscitation, epipens and the medic bag requiring you physically heal the player to allowing only one medic per squad.
I could go on, but I realise that would just waste more of my time.
Quite frankly if you want to help the mod improve by focusing on reality more then you've gone about it in the wrong way. Creating a video that demonstrates most of flaws of the Battlefield 2 engine does not in any way help to constructively criticise PR or make any suggestion for improvement.
All the Devs ever ask for is constructive criticism, and if you are prepared to offer it then you should be prepared to receive it also for your work.

It has to do alot. Right before I clicked the video I knew something wrong would come out of it. But I won't derail the thread about a certain reputation on that side. I'll leave it at that.

^and this pretty much underline that the video is a reflection of your thoughts about the current version. Because saying "just for fun and lolz" and add "not as realistic as before" does not work out as a parody. It's just a nasty form of criticism - very poor and trollish.
We know it is and so do you.

A parody is "a humorous or satirical imitation." (Dictionary)
The video is not an imitation of PR, it is just PR. The disclaimer also includes serious and direct criticisms of PR, which aren't humorous or satirical.
It only shows unrealistic aspects of the BF2 engine, it does not provide any proof that PR has become "more noobfriendly and mainstream" (complete opposite IMO) or any examples where PR as a mod could improve realism appropriately.

Make another video with more 'features' .. I've always wondered stuff like if the Brit Logi truck was bulletproof. And I didn't know the RPG cage made them ineffectual (Presumably you can shoot the rest though).
I also didn't know that tents were bulletproof, nor that the stalls were. That will help me next tim eI play [a bit].
More info on different stuff would be interesting. It's not exactly an exploits thing, seeing as most people obviously know about it.

A parody (pronounced /ˈp?rədi/; also called send-up, spoof or lampoon), in contemporary usage, is a work created to mock, comment on, or make fun at an original work, its subject, author, style, or some other target, by means of humorous, satiric or ironic imitation
I think Snazz was correct

Er.. Yeah.
A parody would be something that is funny and taking the piss (like Life of Brian) .. This is just highlighting some flaws. Which is fine, but not when you call it a parody, as if it's not a criticism.

Having to discuss with you, who are native in the english language, about what a parody is seems rather ridiculous to me.
Read the wikipedia first sentences of what a parody is and come back to me when you think you have figured it out.

Of about 700 seconds of the film I do have a small part of critique in it, it is one second long, in this second I also say that parts of what happens in the film is due to BF2 engine limitation (as most of you already know).
The rest 699 seconds are as you see, ingame clips of Project Reality.

I agree that this was not actually a parody, but I still found it amusing. He was for the most part just making fun of the BF2 engine and just misdirected it a bit. You could read between the lines though and understand that he was not making it with bad intentions.
I think you guys should take it from the US cease fire command, "Cool it!" I didn't see him attacking you, so why must you attack him?

'Funny' is subjective and contextual. Material doesn't necessarily need to evoke an amused third-party response to be technically parody either.
The 'audience' is always a mixed crowd with different mindsets and inhibitions anyway. Take the occasional stark imitating post for example, some would overlook the humorous nature and think the user was just severely bipolar with multiple heavily contrasting personalities.
Viper.Sw wrote:Read the wikipedia first sentences of what a parody is and come back to me when you think you have figured it out.
Your video is not a satirical imitation, therefore it is not a parody. The wikipedia article only further verifies the dictionary definition I provided earlier.
This is a parody:

A parody (pronounced /ˈp?rədi/; also called send-up, spoof or lampoon), in contemporary usage, is a work created to mock, comment on, or make fun at an original work, its subject, author, style, or some other target,
yes, we can see the Ors, and ys that does mean that it is one or more of those options avaliable
...by means of humorous, satiric or ironic imitation
this also gives you several choices, but because these are the means and not the intentions they are a separate list. This means that it can be making fun of original work, its subject, its author or another work and still not be a parody. It requires the MEANs to be a humourous (I submit that I don't think your video was, but thats just me), satiric (your video certainly wasn't satirical) or ironic (it certainly wasn't ironic) imitation (which it wasn't as it was you doing things that would never be done or things that don't happen as standard)

I find it quite funny.
We all suffer equally from these unavoidable issues.
As a three Toyota family after my last Land Rover kept breaking down, the my Toyota is fantastic bit made me smile.
Can understand the defensive posts though.

i liked it, not a parody per say, but i liked it, its parodish
and many of the things were not actual BF2 engine problems, in .95 trucks are stupidly resistant to lats as an example
