Not all firefights last a long time. It's completely situational, like how it is in PR now. Just stop playing 24/7 muttrah and you'll see.

^what he said, Firefights can last between an instant, or possibly hours IRL. In the case of PR since it is a video game it could last up to 10 minutes as it did for me as i mentioned in my previous post. that was definitely one of the longest fights i've had in game so far. It depends on the situation, environment and yours and the enemy's skill level. If you and the enemy you are engaged with are of similar skill level and tactical mind set, you can expect a long drawn out stalemate

I am pretty much sure that is not the truth.
Ever watched the sangin documentary? I think that movie pretty much showcases everything opposite of your claim

Firefights during the 128 player maps are longer and way more intense.

I'm gonna have to say, the reason real-life firefights take long is because you can't see the enemy and you're just shooting. Now, that's just an assumption, correct me if I'm wrong.

well, real life firefights happen over longer distances and your more likly to be suppressing the enemy because usually they're in cover. Also in real life there is A LOT more cover than in PR, such as ditches, trees walls, rocks, and.... well more trees. Also in real life people fear bullets with their life, in PR they fear bullets because of the low spawn time.

Firefights last the correct amount of time in PR imo, balancing realism and the fact you're gonna play for about an hour instead of a six month tour of duty
Though yes its a bit different for different maps, but generally i like to try and move only where there is reasonable cover, so I've not found it a problem.

I agree that firefights don't last long when its squad vs squad but when its at a distance (100+ meters) they can last a while when you have other squads in the mix.
I usually run with a 4 man squad that consist of 3 of my friends and if we ever get engaged I keep two guys firing on them while me and the medic flank/ninja them. It usually works pretty well, the people we engage never seem to realize that we split up and are flanking them.

Its really all to how squads engage targets and at what ranges. The closer you are the shorter it will be... this and guns are very accurate in the right hands...
I hope PR arma II lengths the fire fights to much more... this and the player size increase will make fire fights last longer.

I think this is also down to the fact that it's fairly easy to just respawn in. In games like *cough* Arma II *cough*, when you get killed that's pretty much it (unless you saved your game), so you put more thought/consideration into NOT getting hit. Therefore firefights last longer as everyone puts a lot more value on the fact that you can't spawn in and go at the enemy from another angle a couple of minutes later.

he means that muttrah isnt a very good map for drawing out fire fights. Despite being tight in the alleys and buildings, there's generally little cover for fighters at opposing ends of the alley. The streets provide no cover at all with the lack of static vehicles and the like. No foliage < this is an important one, although in terms of physical cover maps like Yamalia have nothing compared to muttrah, there's more visual cover to stay hidden in while being able to shoot. On maps like muttrah, if you're shooting, you generally must be exposing yourself when doing so. Korengal, Yamalia and the like you can have huge fire fights without actually seeing the physical body of any enemies till it's over and you're sweeping the area for corpses.

You sure? watching documentaries etc fire-fights last hours and hour
That's probably because they involve more people than fire fights in PR.

Firefights don't last long on muttrah. And since lots of people do enjoy city-esque maps such as muttrah, more servers play them more often, which means people will post how firefights "never" last long.

For instance, if you're the attacking infantry squad on Muttrah, the whole round is a firefight if you do it right.

Please don't raise the time/deviation any more. Firefights are short because people don't value their life enough. The only way to deal with it is with increased respawn times or other penalty(I suggest capital punishment). Longer respawn times will not be for everyone, so perhaps allow server admins to set the times themselves.

I was in the SISU server yesterday with players ranging to 27 on each side and it was a very extended firefight. Never had so much action in Muttrah and I was in a defensive squad.
And I can say the same thing about maps like Beirut or Dragon Fly.
The lack of visibility can be a valid argument if it wasn't for the fact that most players don't surpress, they just rather take a clean shot. CQB in maps like Yamalia can be intimidating if you suddenly lose track of your squad mates position and you have no time to pull up the mini map.
It's just situational.

Yeah I agree with the comments saying it jsut depends on the situation. I was in a firefight with two other squads and we were engaging an enemy fob at 600m for at least 30mins
