Hahaha I'm suprised you can even turn it on with a 300W power supply!
500w is pretty much the min these days

i have like 300-400 W powersupply and they work fine.... seriously a 500+ powersupply will be fine almost anything haha, people always expect high end systems to draw lotsa power... they don't

only very high enders need 600W+ PSU btw.

I could barely play PR on the lowest settings until I decided to open up my laptop and unblock the exhaust hole from all the dust that had accumulated over the past three years. I now run PR on max graphics - 8x anti aliasing and ultra high sound without any form of lagg.

Where you live? Bad boys, Bad boys, what you gonny do, what you gonny do when they come for your PC?
But yeah, PR is very heavy game and some maps are especially heavy. You need good prosessor and grap card.

AHAHAHA my ?400 laptop beats my ?600 desktop brought from dell 4-5 years ago
On my laptop I can play even fallujah maxed out with no glitch while my desktop laggs even on the simple maps (res -1280x1024 and i play laptop joined to the 37" Tv)
And this is my laptop spec : AMD athlon II Dual core M300@ 2.00Ghz, 4570 mobility, 4GB ram, Win7 64 bit
WHEREAS
My desktop spec : Pentium 4 @3.00Ghz with Hyperthreading it says 2 cpu (when it's not), 4670 but swapped it with 5770 today (havent tried it yet), 2GB ram, Win XP 32 bit
Can someone tell me the reason behind this anomaly/madness??? (my desktop plays BF2 maxxed out but not PR mod)
Note: Effing Dell locked the LGA775 socket so i cant even upgrade the processor while everything else is unlocked

Well considering a $600 desktop from 4-5 years ago was ***** when it was bought back then, I fail to see how you can be surprised that hardware from 2011 wipes the floor with it.
Your laptop has:
Twice as many processing cores
Twice the amount of ram
Roughly equivalent GPU (although the 5770 will be more powerful, yet bottlenecked by the rest of the POS system)
Is it any wonder that it performs better?
* To qualify me calling your desktop **** in 2007... I had a Q6600 in 2007, you know... a quad core @ 3ghz with a far higher instructions per clock rating than the P4 range (single core). 2GB of ram while reasonable back then, was still pushing the bounds of the lower echelon of computing in 2007.

300W too little?
I run core 2 duo, 9600GSO on a 200W power supply. Messes with your logic of what works.
Edit: Oh and BTW, the 500W PSU is minimum because your salesman says so. You will only need it if you run SLI or crossfire.
500W is a good electric heater in winter tho.

While I agree with your sentiment that the vast majority of internet pplzzz have a big misconception about the power draw of components and the headroom that one should allow... It is important to stress that it is the
quality of the PSU that is by far the most important factor. I would pick a high efficiency, high quality component PSU with 450W+ over a 800W+ [less than 80bronze] made by one of the shonkier manufacturers (I'm looking at you, Shaw...) any day of the week.

Perhaps this is suited to support subforum?
We don't know the state of the OP operating system. It could be registries, old drivers, conflicting software, viruses, spyware. People usually have 15 chat programs that start on windows logon and consume 1GB ram in idle.

I gave the OP his
answer already, so even if he had a brand new windows install with just PR essentials, he still wouldn't be able to max out the game because his hardware isn't up to the task.

Second, a sloppy powersupply with powerspikes can fry your components or itself. As for the savings you make because of the effeciency in conversion from AC, I think you would that only notice an difference in your electric bill if you use your rig in a way that it draws maximum power all the time.
