Bump. Hey guys, I kind of need some help here.
Well, I sent messages to a couple of people asking them what they thought would be good for the planted Artillery IED model and Chuc was the only one who responded so far.
So, the idea as of now (I'm pretty it'll stay this way too) this that the planted model will be a small pile of dirt. I'm trying to find a suitable way to color the dirtpile so it will blend well. I've taken color samples from Korengal, Ramiel and Basrah.
So, I got easily got the pile of dirt into the model, but now the 1p model looks like the dirt pile too.
Here is my hierachy:
I have the dirt pile under geom0. Then the high and low poly versions of the IED are under lod0 and lod1 (respectively) under geom1.
So what am I not doing?

Geom0;lod0 is the 1p model so you'd have to have the shell and dirt pile as separate geometries or just the shell without dirt pile. Depending how you want it animated and how it's possible animate. So if you want the animation to kinda push the dirt on top of it you'd need the dirt geometry, but if you want it to just appear when planted you don't need it.
Under Geom1;lod0 you need to have shell and pile as separate too so when you look at it in someones hand there's no pile, but the pile is going to be used when placed. Not sure about the lod1 though, if that's used for low settings or is it just for statics. Some one else can help with that.
Here's the tripflare hierarchy for reference
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k207/tupla_s/lod.jpg mesh1 is the stand/mount and 1 is the flare part. I have the 3p model as one though since both of them are going to be seen in 3p while holding too.
Hope you can understand that, I'm bad at explaining things. =)

Well I know lod1 is for lower settings.
But you're right, I'm kind of confused.
So, I should basically have something like this?

Where Geom1-lod0-arty_ied__GenericFireArm is the arty ied, Geom0-lod0-1 is the arty ied, Geom0-lod0-arty_ied__GenericFireArm is a dirtpile.
I've yet to do the lod1 as well, but I will if this is right.
Ok now?

Yes, that seems right to me. And I'd agree the hierarchies are a bit confusing sometimes. Don't know if I understand them fully either.

Yeah, I looked around on the BFEditors for the longest time and I found this one tut with a bunch of examples so I've just been kind of BS'ing it off those examples (and you're flare too even before you just suggested it).
Also, what should I change (if anything) in the con file?

You could possibly make it so that you have to 'build' the IED. First it's kind of just dropped on the ground and half-buried (hopefully, make it so that it's still active but not concealed), then 2 shovel swipes will bury and cover it, 'replacing' the model to the sand mound?

I was thinking the same thing Celestial, you place it, then "shovel" the dirt onto it.

Well, I don't really like having to build it; however, I can ask Chuc if he'll make the planting animation take a long time, and if it could involve you patting on the dirt and stuff.
Ok?

If he's up to it, sounds like a good idea, plus it'll make sure the planter his hiding it pretty well so he doesn't get shot.

Ok?
It's up to you, it was only a suggestion to further the use of the device and to add an interesting detail to planting one.
The animation could look strange however, if the player moves during the 'deploying' animation. Hands patting 'dirt' into the air, etc?
Again, if you chose to build it it could work normally while unshoveled, just slightly less concealed... and with a few scoops from the shovel, it turns into the 'dirt mound', concealing it better. It would still be an active explosive, either way.

Well this is a weapon, firebases and stuff are vehicles (esentially you're repairing them while building them). You can't "build" weapons. Whatever, I'll talk to Chuc about it.

could you spawn it with less than the maximum HPs? then make it bleed at the starting HPs, forcing the bomber to wrench/shovel the weapon to a HP level above that of the bleed level?

About the concealment. Currently regular mines and IED's aren't buried or hidden any way, but people still get lots of kills using them and even TK's from mines. I think it would be pretty easy just toss the arty IED into some bush next to road or behind a rock and most players wouldn't notice it before it's too late.

Lol. Nice. Looking good. I suggest you add a few more polys to the shell itself as it is a bit low. Might as well redo the whole model if you do that though so w/e. Up to you of course. And the duct tape should be a bit thicker you think? Looks good otherwise. I wanna try making one now. lol.
*EDIT* Nevermind. This post was to your first try at it. Didn't realize there were 22 pages. The one in your avatar looks really nice. Great job!

But you're still not an R-Con...oh well, if it makes you feel any better I used your artillery IED successfully twice on 2 separate Humvees.

I tried using the arty IED last night and musta screwed it up. I thought it would stick to an APC when deployed, but it sure didn't. Although i deployed it and pulled out the cell and dialed to ready the trigger the IED seemed to follow me and when it detonated......I did too.
I have to experiment some more to determine if it was a bug, or I did something wrong.
