There just must be a way to do this!
there always is one...Mora wrote:There just must be a way to do this!
haha i should shouldn't iMora wrote:Well Dice is located in sweden right?
So go ahead pay him a visithe may even give us the source code (joke)
No we modified and ran the game off the BF2 demo exe as well. Its quite impossible unless you get DICE or EA permission and as I said earlier we attempted through the POE team and if you guys (The PR staff) wish to make a further attempt I can try to get you the work we did to help you move along your attempts. Yar was very very thoughtful and indepth with his editing along with the head guy of RDgaming. The best we were able to manage was modifying the demo to play whatever map we wanted and use whatever weaponry we wanted. (We ran a special mod designed to just screw around. Assault kit had every assault rifle, Ak47, AK101, M16 all in different slots.)zangoo wrote:ok so the bf2 demo could have more then 64 people, so what does bf2.exe have that bf2 demo exe doesnt? does bf2 have anymore things added to the engine or is it all just vehicls and maps?
now the real question, what if we use the bf2.exe from the demo instead of the one that bf2 comes with, would this work. now with this you would just change out the .exe nothing else, this would make people still have to buy the game and everything and should keep dice/ea happy.
but these are just my thoughts and we all know how wrong those can be.....
That would be very usefull.Cheesygoodness wrote:if you guys (The PR staff) wish to make a further attempt I can try to get you the work we did to help you move along your attempts.

The first try you're talking about was in 2007, right? So have you talked to Josh about this? Can I get more info about your work? I'm interested in continuing it.Cheesygoodness wrote:I hate to put a further damper but that is a set of code we attempted to fix in the first try. We mirrored Josh's own plans (thats why our server said 128 players.) and it continued to not work I am afraid even with edited maps. The server thinks 128 players are workable but we can only assume there is a client side check that will not allow more then that. Unfortunately we stopped trying due to lack of testing abilities and well.. I do hate to be blunt but several members of our community do not like how your mod was run and in the direction it was going. (I am unsure of the release but whenever you began requiring sign ups for server files.) So we decided to stop using PR as a test and we switched to POE briefly before frustration and time issues stopped us.
Maybe the modified client we ran required that everyone have it for it to register not the 10 or so people we used to test but if it was a compatibility issue then I shouldn't have been able to connect at all we figured.
As per Psykogundams comments. All of that I assume is quite possible but EA did not exactly release the tools to do it for there demo. So I can only figure it would require a lot of effort.

Dear Lucas
Thank you for contacting us regarding Battlefield 2 and we appreciate you contacting us before progressing. We are happy that you would like to work with Battlefield 2 and make modifications. Creating a mod for Battlefield 2 is more than acceptable, however modifying the BF2.exe file is not and falls under the EULA provided with the game.
We hope you understand and are able to continue your project in another way.
Regards,
DICE
