Server dependant on a good server with decent SL's OK. On a bad round TK's would be rife.

Would increase SL stress and duties even more, time for the medic to join SL mumble channel I think.

Theres alway going to be good rounds and bad rounds. Right now with 0.95 you get a bad game every once in a while where no one is working together and all squads are spread out. And the team with good comms completely destroys the other. It still happens

Necromancer!!!
but hey,i think that this thread need more discussion because we have now new mumble with all goodies.
but what i want also propose in this suggestion that when you have not commander...friendlys on map is disabled.
but when commander is on ,friendlys are there.
and also it would be great if squadleaders could mark friendlys on map but mark would be visible only short time.
sorry about reviving.

True but with this change the number of bad rounds would increase dramatically. Personally I'd really love this change its only that the community, in its current state (with the huge amount of noobs and newcomers), its not ready for such a change.

How many other games even have this feature? Most of the time you need to talk with your allies to find out where they are. The biggest issue would if there was no marker of where you yourself are. It's kind of hard to find landmarks if you've never been to that map before. However there could be something that tells you a rough idea where you are. Say the map might say you are in B5 or G8kp3.

I think it's a change people will adapt to, though I do imagine it would be a bit **** to begin with. I don't agree that people can't adapt to changes.

Removing friendly positions on maps may force people to make more sensible decisions, checking carefully to determine what areas are clear of friendlies, making people stop and think before firing at anything. It encourages close communication between squads and discourages lone-wolfs who are most likely to suffer.

There's probably a lot of flaws that I've not really thought about, but it will be interesting to see how people would change their behaviour to suit it. I remember when mortars were first introduced, it seemed the mortar teams would rack up loads of kills, now players seem to have adapted, immediately running for covering on hearing incoming. It seems that although mortars are still being used to try and kill, I've seen a lot of cases where they're used to suppress, firing HE followed by smoke prior to a squad moving in. Also when ARs were turned into killing machines, people adapted to run for cover as soon as they started firing.

EDIT: Just a thought (someone's probably already suggested), you could have it so just the SL (and friendly armour?), are visible on the map

I have enough trouble with 1337 operators teamkilling, dont see a need to exponentially increase the amount of incidents for the sake of...well "nothing" seems to be the appropriate word

Try to play on United Operations, not a game itself but a community within ArmA II that uses ACE and its sister mods.

Penguin, don't underestimate the stupidity of PR players, some have never adapted and the overall skilllevel has dropped dramatically since 0.9 (major introductions and changes to gameplay).

As said, I am all for it, go ahead and try it in one release. If it works out, great, if not just wrap it back up.

Maybe it should be so that server admins decide wether they run maps with this uptade or without it. It could be used with servers that have high quality gameplay and mumble usage.

Why are they going to kill more teammates when those indicators that they fail to observe in the first place, are removed? There's no logic in that assumption.

Perhaps players who don't usually team kill will now get a few more tk's. But, I would expect the common PR player would modify his/her game behavior after that to avoid future incidents.

The way I look at it, when you see a person walking 300m away in PR, what is the common reaction? Pull up your map and check if there's a little blue dot. If there isn't you throw whatever you have at it. It's all too black and white, computer game certainties.

I've never been to war, but I would imagine that even if the bluforce tracker said there were no friendly units in the area, they would still pull out their binoculars or scopes and get eyes on the units before they sent lead towards them. Otherwise you would end up with mass friendly casualties in the event that the bluforce tracker ever glitched.

My point being that with a little more uncertainty in PR, we would get a more realistic response time and make being spotted a little bit less punishing. If you catch a glimpse of a soldier moving about some buildings but didn't get a good visual, it would require some team work to figure out if there are friendly units in the area, or if that was in fact an enemy. All very realistic actions that are lacking a great deal in PR.

I don't think, that it will work now at public server, because there is still many people, who first shoot next check, but it can work on events and clan matches.

Bump. Question for DEV's: is it possible to remove SM's positions from the map but leave SL's?

So many of the squad leaders suck sooo much, that this will just make it even worse. It's one thing when you have some PR vet with tags leading a squad, that is worth it. I honestly avoid being in squads now because of all the annoying, and stupid SLs lately. This idea of yours sounds cool if you have the right people playing, and like pure frustration with the average people playing.

I don't ever mind about public game with bad players.
And PR shouldn't be like dayz when everyone playing his own game.

I like it because few soldiers have access to live updated maps on the battlefields of today. It would also jeopardize an army if live intelligence fell into enemy hands.

This goes under the Gameplay X Realism discussion. XD

For lone-wolfers, yes. If you are in good squad, or SL, there would be no problem.

Like...what?
Lonewolfing is, honestly, the most stupid thing you can do in PR.

Please dont remove SM Positions from the Map. Its sometimes even hard enough, especially for new Players, to orientate and SL cant always waste his markers for own position. With the removal of Binos its harder to tell if friend or enemy and remove the Map will make things complicated without a reason. Some assuming "yeah if you have a good SL and good SM everything is fine" but most of the time you simply havent and what then? Leave this guys behind RTFM GTFO? Admin work will harder also, free win for every Baseraper and Co...
