Unfortunately I believe going ban happy on peoples conversations is none of the admins business, if my buddies want to talk about barbie and her hot pink convertible corvette it's our right and if you don't like it step away or mute mumble.
Wow..what a considerate guy. That kind of attitude will get you kicked from the server I belong to.

If you like to talk about barbie dolls maybe you need to create your own barbie doll sqd.

I've seen more people using mumble since the patch, whether that's because of more awareness who knows, but it is quite nice.

Personally I sometimes use mumble and sometimes don't. I still haven't quite got co-ordinated with the shortcuts so often I end up talking to my squad when I actually want to be talking to the helicopter pilot. Other times mumble can be a nuisance - Such as when the squad is talking and I'm trying to talk to someone locally, or when some people are talking over mumble and others not. Also, I won't use it when I'm playing with a friend over skype, because when you're trying to talk with both squad voip and mumble nattering away it gets very frustrating and you can't hear yourself think. I know there are keys for muting and deafening on mumble but there are points when you undeafen yourself but don't unmute yourself without noticing, rendering it pretty useless until you realise and alt-tab.

Basically, it can be a lot of work. Occasionally the server crashes/restarts as well and I get thrown off the channel without realising and this, together with the current (admittedly unavoidable) instability of PR, can get very frustrating. It's all fun when it works and there's good participation, but often I can't see the advantage. It's a useful asset, but in most public games using VOIP and typing out enemy positions keeps people co-ordinated enough.

This is what distracts me, I lose track of who is talking to me between squad comm and mumble.. then start replying to wrong people etc.

The global spam is another reason I don't use it much.

I love mumble. I do use it, however if there is a reason I'm not using it then its usually because not enough people are on it with me.

I hate mumble because people hate it, group-hating is cool because then I dont even have to try it out in a proper game.

I really love mumble but its only drawback is that not everyone uses it which sucks. The only time when it is effective is if everyone is using it such as servers like tactical gaming. It is a great tool and i love the ability to communicate with other squad mates.

Mumble sounds clearer, and it sounds like its from someone either to your left or to your right. Voip sounds a little rougher and u hear it as if thru headphones of a person

imo

I use it only on TG , because almost everyone is on mumble on TG. But on other servers you will only see 20 guys on mumble (Prime-Time in Europe) of a whole full server so it won't really work.

Configure mumble overlay. That way you can see who is talking.

I dislike Mumble due to all the constant and pointless intra-squad chit-chatting. Mumble is for inter-squad communication, not intra-squad chit-chatting! If you want to communicate with your own squad, use the God damn in-game VOIP! If you as a squad leader needs to coordinate with the other squads, or if you as a squad member in a hurry needs to tell the chopper pilot to hold his take-off a second, then go ahead and utilize Mumble.

Chit-chatter, sure. Usually not a good idea when it comes to Mumble in general.
Intra-squad communication in Mumble? Extremely useful.
What if I don't want to hear what the medic has to say to the AR? What if the entire squad doesn't need to hear what the gunner of tank 1 in a tank squad has to say to his driver?

Mumble.

If there's a healthy amount of communication and everyone uses VOIP all the time, comms will get cluttered. Say everything that is relevant to the whole squad, or if you need to talk to someone far away in VOIP, and everything else in Mumble.

This is not to say Mumble is always used in this way, often times it will get just as annoying as you describe. But this is NOT down to the program itself.

My 2 cents.

And this is where you're wrong. Mumble performs both tasks exceptionally well and should be regarded as the primary communication tool, with i/g-VOIP being used only when information that has to reach every squad member needs to be transmitted. If you say 'contact 125' on VOIP it carries no information about your particular position and so it can be just as much of a guessing game to locate that contact as though you'd said 'contact left'. With Mumble I receive your relative position to the contact and can extrapolate the position of the contact quickly. It also allows smaller groups within your squad to hold several conversations at once without any and all information getting lost in the flood of yapping on the i/g-VOIP and lets smaller groups detach from the squad as a whole and still have both groups communicate in-between themselves simultaneously without flooding VOIP. You might also have a couple of blue guys who are moving with you and they most definitely can't hear what your saying on VOIP, hence making Mumble the preferred communication tool.

I could keep going on, but the point is that Mumble is the superior communication tool for everything except squad-specific information that has to be transmitted to everyone.

Actually, Mumble makes it more realistic to a certain degree. I like being able to hear what the squad next to me is talking about - the more intel the better.

Don't want to start a whole new thread for this so i'll just ask it here...

Does anyone know how to disable those anoying pop-ups on your taskbar when someone joins/leave the server. They are driving me nuts

Id like to see a game event, mumblers vs non mumblers. One team gets to use mumble, the other team does whatever it wants but does not use mumble or TS.

That's an unfair comparison Cassius. No one has raised any problems with what mumble is for, people raise problems with how it's accomplished and what the side effects are.

I'd like to see a random team of 32 people culled from the current playing population using mumble versus a tight knit clan that's been doing PR together since .2 who don't have mumble.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

I wasnt thinking of it as an pi**ing contest, I am just really curious to see how much of a difference it would make, seen as on the servers where one team is in mumble and the other isnt, the mumble users are also regulars on the server.
