I think a better solution would be too keep only this on the map:
-Your position
-Squad leaders positions
-Vehicle positions
-FOB and emplacement positions
This will make teams more revolved around there squad leaders instead of having a year 3000 personal map so they can lone wolf it easily. Would encourage teamwork and improve realism so no problems IMO.

DUDE, I just had a great idea, what if we made it so ONLY SQUAD leaders could be seen on the map (also heavy assets like helis, tanks, jets, apcs, etc.) that way you can check the map to see SQUAD locations, and this also encourages infantry units to stick together, because otherwise it'd be harder to ID them as friendly if they're not near friendly locations

TBH this kinda simulates the fact that squad leaders/heavy assets are in contact with each other, as opposed to lone infantry and the like which don't have access to a radio

iF YOU LOOKED TWO POSTS UP YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN IVE ALREADY SUGGESTED THIS, BUT YEAH ITS A GOOD IDEA IMO MORE TEAM BASED.

Not a good idea to make only SL and assets visible on map.
There is already a problem with identifying friendlys and it isnt always possible for the squad to be close.
Imagine your coming out of the woods, see a MG looking in your direction, you hit the deck check the map and you cant see any SLs near. You have no idea if hes friendly or not and if he isnt, you will most likely get a burst to the face if you try to look.
People will also not stop lone wolfing, hell I guess some of them will think they are smart and doing some infiltrating mission, hoping to not get shot instantly by enemys because the enemy have to double check, if friend or foe.

Removing map will just cause many many teamkills. People already do not check the map often enough (myself included) which results to teamkills, removing the map from people who do use it enough will join the teamkill party. Not a good idea.

How can you decide to attack or defend not knowing what other squads are doing?
Just imagine a CAS huey on Barracuda who hasn't been updated that the airport is now in friendly hands.

It is possible, it can be done in theory... But except the 15 guys in this community i know that are capable of proper coms, it would be a disaster. Intel on friendlies let alone enemies is to much to handle or relay for a common pub apparently.
PR is kinda being dragged back with all the k/d whores and simly bad players that want to press WASD and M1.

Terrible idea. It has been raised countless times too.
Minimap= awareness. This isn't real life, you aren't already briefed on where to go, you don't have communication with other squads or fireteams, and you are not moving in a large formation such as a platoon. How are you supposed to know what and who is around you when moving? Even if your squad saw everyone in your squad, what about if they wanted to heal someone or were told to help out with another squad or something? There are too many opportunities for this to backfire because most players lack awareness already.
The minimap is even more important for when you have no commander. Face it, no one likes going Commander anymore, and even if people do, you can't place the outcome of a game solely on 1 person.
When I am SL and want to coordinate with other squads, how do I do it? Check my minimap and tell my squad to form up with another squad so we can move together. If all I see as a SL is just another SL, how am I to know he even has a squad there with him or if they are scattered across the map????
I agree with the guy i quoted - this is a terrible idea. It's good for die-hard-hardcore PR players who have memorized every inch of the map and every rock, for those playing a map for the first time - they'd end up getting killed much more often because the team just moved out without telling anyone ... it would also cause tons of teamkills.
I rather liked the idea of a "radio range" where after a certaint distance or when in mountain area certaint, but not all, friendly units would disappear from the map to simulate loss of radio contact.

I think it's time for this change to occur. Squad leader/Pilot (in cockpit) and Commander should only be the ones with maps. It's coming eventually I think. The community is ready for this as we have adapted often times ahead of the game itself. We need the teamwork aspect pushed up to the forefront. Squad leaders and Commanders put into their proper place in PR.
I remember when the radar map (upper right) was removed back in what was it 0.6? There was a lot of rage but we all adapted and here we are. I think it is at least worth a test to see it's effects.
