here is the web site
Up to 255 people per server on Battlefield 2 (how to) [Archive] - Halflife2.net Forums
that is not work for 1.41
Server will crash if 65+ players connected.
I'm trying to fix this and remove hack-assertion hide-byte, and when BF2 Server crashed, it says "1 setInput out of range: . Max is: 64"
I'm think about if it's engine is byte limited by one byte, that means engine can work with 255 players max.
We are also started "closed" tests with 64+ test in russian bf2 community.
that message also followed in attach.

A server has already done this! I believe it was Pr 0.5 and the server was called Rubber Ducky.

Yeah, I remember it. I remember sitting up at like 1:00am waiting for it to fill. I've also heard people talking about it full. It's dead now though and Ducky doesn't play Pr anymore. The server just vanished without a trace a few weeks after I played on it. I tell you, 80 player Muttrah, the USA couldn't get off the carrier FAST ENOUGH.

Uhh, I was around back then and I remember that no one could join after 64 players.
Perhaps you are thinking about co-op gameplay?

I believe the GameServer host Hypernia is capable of 128 slots with BF2 if you purchase the premium box (~$250/Month)
Uh, I ran Bubba's Training Server, from my house with 15 outside connections available, with 1meg up (On my laptop). With that data, each person would need 68.23kb of bandwidth.

Good times
Anyway i dont think this is in anyway possible, this is the server equivalent to fastropes, no matter how bad you want it you cant have it.

BF2 cannot really be updated any further (besides the 1.5 patch, which is probably the final patch for BF2).
PR is limited by the BF2 engine. The Devs are overwealmed with these amazing ideas, but those ideas cannot be implemented because of the older BF2 engine.

^well reliable source tells me that if EA wanted to, they could pretty much flip a switch and give us 80 people instead of 64.

probs cuz it would eat in to their new game sales I guess, they've made their money on BF2, why make it so BF2 can still compete?

To be honest the only way EA would ever give the source code is if they were 100% sure that loads of people would buy the Battlefield 2 game, but if PR became better than some games about 50% of their sales would be lost due to free torrents etc, so they would of lost money.

Dont forget the performance on an individual PC!
My Battlefield 2 lags when playing with 64 players on Ghost Town and if i think about Iron Gator ......

and 128 players..... just horror for my PC. I know that most people have better PCs than I (its 3 y.o.) and theoretically I'm able to buy a new pc, but ... isnt it somehow getting too much for the engine ? and in addition I would suggestto uptade the system requirements for PR, because I got half of the fps I got in vanilla.

It's still one of the most stable engines for multiple player with combined arms if I'm not mistaken, I'm sure with a decent enough server it should cope ok.

Bazajaytee
DICE
Won't happen. End of story.
what a bugger...let us worry about if our servers can handle it. 80 players at least would be fine surely.

They have got a point with server stress, as you can only technically run a BF2 server on one core you loose a lot of power by doing this, and at map changes etc you would get a lot of maxed out CPUs leading to ALOT of crashes.
But, 80 man PR would be pretty cool, and maybe 80-90 would be the max push id like to see for a bit, as I think 100 odd on most PR maps would be ludicrous

heck servers have come on leaps and bounds since bf2 came out - its a pity they won't just up the player limit to say 75 - 80 or at least allow the modders the chance to test it out.
sorry just read about the single core running - ah well
