I'm confused, what does this do?
Does it let your hear people if they were talking in BF2's integrated VOIP? IE: If you're close to an enemy, and he uses the squad voice chat, will I hear him? Or does it only let you do it with people who have mumble?
Will it work on any servers, or only ones that have Mumble?
Basically I'm asking what it does, cause in reading the thread, I'm not sure I understand.

Not to be an *** but if you read trough this topic, watched some examples, read the install stuff you should have probably gottn the idea
But heres the explenation: Mumble is a big added fat bonus to the INGAME voip or EXTERNAL Teamspeak servers some people use.
Mumble integrates positional audio. Say we are both in the game. Im standing behind you and I use Mumble to talk you can hear my voice from behind you. You dont have to be in the same squad as me. Just on Mumble.
Mumble is external to Battlefield 2 and has got nothing to do with BF2 or PR. Its just an external program that uses an external server as well.

With mumble, you can hear people (who are using mumble too) from the direction that they are in the game and if your friend is close, you can hear him loud and clear, but if he is far, you barely can hear him talking.
If the enemy is using mumble, yes, you both can hear eatch other.
Head more at the mumble official topic above.

Do you have to join a server in mumble when you join an PR server, or does it automatically put you in the right one?

Hi Caboose
Yes you do have to join a server, and be in the correct channel.
You can join this one depending on the server
Server Name: Project Reality Official Mumble Test Server
Server Address: 69.12.76.37
Server Port: 64738 (default)
Username: yournamehere (no spaces)
Password: none
There is a description in the
link how to set it up

BF2 doesn't deserve such a great tool.

BIG Problem is that Mumble killed my BF2 voip. I can hear very very silent, bo matter what to do..i Dont start mumble anymore but BF2 Voip is silent...all sliders are at 100%---
What can i do?
Vista32 and Xfi gamer Soundcard..
Same Problem .... NO more voip in BF2 , i installed new Xfgamer Driver (newest from HP) and i can run normal, played a few rounds with mumble and get the same problem...
Disable sound ingame magek voices loud or silent...Played with Vista Sound mixer..nothing..BF2 Voip is gone again...They can hear me but i cant hear anyone.

I'm leaning towards the attitude that teams should be seperated in different channels.
It's primary function is having squads communicating, and while i agree it's "fun" talking to the enemy, it's both being spammed ("suck on my nuts fag" while being teabagged) and exploited both by folks running it primarily to listen in on enemy, and easily eavesdropping by adjusting settings.
It's sure more 'realistic' the way now, but would work better if everyone had same setting/integrated into game like unnavoidable consequense of using bf2-voip or something.

Nah, not me, though I have seen you die randomly right in front off me, scaring the **** outta me
Though maybe you have the overlay on? I wouldn't have suspected you overlooking that, though it's still a possibility

if u have xfire on at the same time it will interfere.
Programs that are known to have issues with the Mumble overlay are:
* Xfire (when the Mumble overlay is enabled in a game, the Xfire overlay will not work) (latest snapshots fix this problem)

I have Overlay and Xfire on while using Mumble, and getting no strange bugs.

Games - Mumble
*if* you have the latest snapshot, it shouldn't be a problem.

Yea, I've played pr with mumble on, Xfire working ingame, and Fraps on as well. Though I know some programs (Wegame for instance) interfere with others, like Xfire.

I personally find that xfire doesn't like the overlay, or Teamspeak overlay, or wegame or Fraps. You can get it working together, but its a pain and increases the amount I CTD.

i actually agree on the two channels thing. i find myself increasingly using ingame voip again coz some f***tard has his positional audio switched off and is on the enemy team...

Maybe not 2 channels but 2 subchannels. Just like SLs have. They can communicate with Force Center Position and they hear only themselves, if they use regular PTT - anybody can hear them.
And... DEVs pls lock settings and relase a PRMumble. It will be great. No wrong-config problems with noobs and newbies.
