I couldn't investigate the images themselves because I don't know anything about image editing nor do I know the criteria for valid BF2 HUD images.

I narrowed it down to those image files by first commenting out every item in each HudElements.con file. Then I'd uncomment each item one by one. When I experienced a crash I'd replace the .dds file with a known valid one. I'd test for a crash with the replaced file and if no crash was experienced I'd continue to the next item.

I later tested the crash rate with the suspect image files. I crashed every single time.

Note: I know you refer to some of the .dds images as .tga in the HUD files.

Video Card: ATI X1900XT -- I am aware that there are issues with some .dds images with ATI cards.
Perhaps the textures are saved at a resolution that is not a power of 2 (512x512, 1024x256 etc)

I know that ATI cards have problems with textures that are not ^2 sizes.

Textures are:
4096x4096 Main hull-large parts of the heli
2048x2048 Subparts of the heli
1024x1024 Cockpit

The reason why people get crashed might be:
-Wrong installation of the Heli files
-Some of old videocards do not support textures/images higher than 2048x2048
-Ati videocards wich might have some problems with games and textures,example GTA 4 by the time when it came out ,almost no one who owned ATi videocards could even start the game till the first patch.
Buy Nvidia videocards ,99,9999% of the games work fine with them,without having any problems.
And if the game do have problem ,it`s pure issue of the game self.

P.S. 99% of the people i know haven`t got any problems with Heli,just a few of them.

Oh, your helicopter's textures are fine. It's the HUD textures that are causing the crash. I listed the specific files above.

This is wierd because i`ve used original BF2 HUD textures ,i`ve just modified them or painted my own over it and saved. If you have Photoshop and .dds plugin for it you can probably fix it,or ask to someone who can probably fix it ,because i`m not that good at creating HUD textures. Maybe i have some mistakes in those textures ,because at that time i didn`t knew exactly how hud textures works,and hw you create them , maybe i did something wrong when i was adjusting them.

Maybe the problem is because i`ve used .dds plugin for Photoshop from Nvidia,so it makes some issue with ati videocards.

Maybe the way to install it? I didn´t use the normal way, I copied each of the files to their respective places in the right folders, rather than extract the whole thing.

I manually copied everything over. I've even used multiple sources (KA-50 Final v0.5 downloaded from three different hosts and KA-50 Final v0.5 Alternate Installation). The HUD images cause me to crash if I merge them with any mod (BF2, PR, POE, USI, AIX, and my personal mod) or even if I make a stand-alone Ka-50 mod. They crash if I use them in any HUD file for any vehicle. I've effectively eliminated every other possibility leaving the only common element in all the crashes to be the actual image files themselves.

Since I don't know anything about image editting, anyone care to actually look at the difference between these image files versus working image files?

I will have a look at them, but I can´t promise anything because they work here so I won´t be able to tell.

Edit: Did you try renaming all the .tga to .dds?

Those damn textures gust need proper resizing. 16,32,64,128,256,512,1024,2048 - proper sizes for Ka-50 textures on Radeon videocards.

It is a single seated attack helicopter is the reason iirc.
