OH I see. Then it shouldn't be much problem to add them and skin the model with the JGSDF helicopter camo. :)

I'd prefer the BH more... But somehow i'd say use both, the BH for sea landings and the Huey for land warfare.

Hey,
I was just looking through the Japanese Ground Self-Defence Force page at Wikipedia, at it says there are more Type 74's in service than Type 90's. Should the Type 74 be added to the design document? I wouldn't mind modeling it, it's curved turret would be a nice challenge :) I can't find any blueprints for the Type 87 AA, so it's unlikely I could model that, and the Type 89 would be an epically tricky model, so I don't want to model that atm :)

and the JGSDF Black hawk looks very different to the US one...look at the engine, and the shape of the curve running up along the top of the hawks...

Oh ok, fair enough. The reason I was thinking of doing the Type 74 is because the Type 89's chassis is a modified version of it, so I could hit two birds with one stone so to speak :)

I don't mind working using pictures as a "blueprint", but tbh it's very rare to find a perfect side view and front view of a tank, and even having reference material for the top of a tank is very unusual. I'll either model the Type 96 APC, or Type 89 next, but give me a day or two, between school, modeling, overhauling my blog, learning piano and talking to people I'm stretched a little thin atm

And your right about the Helo, the curve shape probably is a mistake but a very minor one, and it's a great model anyway :)

Use the Huey please :)

They are faster, and easier to land

Don't worry, I've already started making on my next vehicle :D

I might have a shot at the Type 74 after I finish my new model for the JGSDF, which is about...5% complete at the moment. Here's a hint to what the new model is...I added something from it to my personal Type 87 AT ;)

lol... you're working on the Type 89 IFV if I'm not mistaken :) Those missile launchers are for the Type 79 Jyu-MAT missile. right?

Genau :D

The Type 89 is very early WIP, but it's coming along nicely, but it's every bit as hard to model as it's Italian lookalike, the Dardo. I have a question about the tow launchers: Should I model them with or without the caps on them?

Image

In RL, do the caps jettison milliseconds before launch?

Hey,
just giving you guys a quick progress report. I've finished the Type 89's turret, apart from a small part at the rear.

Image

I have got the sideskirts modeled, and the track/wheels are done, but the main body is barely started, so I'm just showing you the turret for now. I didn't do a lot of modeling this week as I was a little busy, but my weekends pretty much free so maybe I can get this finished soon :)
MBT Type 90 and Type 87 RV done, waiting texture and export.
Trahnlee (or whatever name he goes by here) was telling me I have to delete all the backfacing poly's and model the suspension, so I'll do that soon.
Type 87 AW (Self propelled Anti aircraft Gun) but I guess Noobage would like to make it?
Sadly, the reference material sucks, so I have to say no to this one. I might be modeling a Marder (based of the TAM's chassis) for the GF guys after the Type 89, to add a bit of variety to my blog, so I'm not sure about the Type 74 being done in the near future. There's no rush on me I guess, and you guys will have an APC, MBT, and RV, so you should be fine on the vehicle side of things

Well, if you are gonna make the Type 87 SPAAG and the Type 96 APC, they are quite similar to some things he german forces could use ;) if you do model the Marder, I would have no choice but to accept your model cause you make some damn good models man :)

Skins on the JGSDF player is done, will do the pilot kit to finish it off. Will post pics this weekend.

Starting work on the dirtbike this weekend, as well as small things like ammo cans and misc equipment where english writing wouldn't be suitable.

Do we need the UH-1 or the UH-60 as the main helicopter transport? I might be able to start that this weekend, too.

woot. Looking forward to the finished skins. Good luck on finishing the pilot skin and the other miscellaneous stuff.

As for the Helicopter repaint...
The thing is that the UH-1 is present in larger numbers than the UH-60. However if you were to repaint a UH-1 you would have to repaint a UH-1 "Iroquois" model and not the UH-1H "Twin Huey" that is present with the USMC in PR. OPK has a nice model although the guys of PR-GF are still negotiating with them over the use of that model.

The UH-60 would need some child objects in order to make it look like UH-60Js in use for JGSDF service.

How about we vote? We just write in our comments in black, what is our choice. The heli with the most votes gets inside the JSDF faction. ok?
My vote is for the UH-60.

if you mean it looks sorta "flat", max has a wierd habit of doing that unless you also have wireframe on (like in my sig). It probably is a little diproportioned, but how I like to work is I model everything, then put a render of that model next to a real picture and adjust and scale any bits that are innacurate.

Works still going well, I am starting to work on the body now. The wheels turned out nice and round for a low polycount too :D

I vote for the UH-60 to, it looks cooler :D
