I've seen him on a couple of times. More of a rage-kid than a player with knowledge, though.Stealthgato wrote:Have you even played this game at all?

Maybe the balance issue with attack helis could be fixed with a couple of ZPU techis (like the ones i have seen on the news in Libya). Dunno how hard this would be though, but make it a 2 seat vehicle (driver and gunner), limited ammo, and only able to fire upwards (say 20 degrees+ or something). Allow it to respawn like the regular techies and have it have 50 ammo and no reloads (without RTB) or something like that. Thoughts?

Using jets on maps smaller than 4x4km with view distance less than 800m in unreasonable. Let alone fact that the airfield can already by easily camped by ins sometimes destroying helis at helipads.DNA9881 wrote:I still think an A-10 on Ramiel would make things interesting just give the ins 2 stingers at main. Yeah I think it would be cool to have a A-10 on a 4KM insurgency map one day. Given some AA equipement, the insurgents could sure take one down. Some strellas, SA-7, and the quad

You do realize that even though you limit the turret and ammo of a ZPU techie people will still rape inf with it......I know I would sure love to see this asset made but it would be insanely OP with the right operators.
In general the urban nature of most insurgency maps would rule out the use of CAS based on the civilian inhabitants, because even though we don't see them people do theoretically live in these buildings/huts. It might be suitable for some maps but they are few and far in between, very few situations would merit calling in CAS as I believe caches are intended to be taken out by the boots on the ground and not CAS spam (see Kokan).

If you haven't already read the books "Apache" and "Hellfire" by British Apache pilot Ed Macy. These books could be a good insight into how the CAS could be used and new ideas. I think that it would be great to see these assets(CAS, AA, AA technical, etc.) implemented and give it a more feeling for what its like. One thing that could help is make it so there is a JTAC(Joint Terminal Attack Controller) kit which has to give an actual command for the CAS to be cleared hot to fire.

I sincerely doubt that a JTAC kit would add anything that the existing officer and sniper kits lack. IRL, JTACs are the liaison between INF and CAS. With the limited manpower we get in PR, and the new mumble, it's a perfect example of when gameplay > realism.

Re: Never any jets or attack helos vs. taliban/insurgents
if there was a variant of a-10 without bombs or rockets it would work for insurgency i think. but what map?
having rockets and bombs is just way overpowered imo. but atleast with gun runs the jet is vulnerable. the insurgents could use .50, aa, and zpu as it came low. that 30mm is cool alone anyways. its usually what i see the a-10 using on a run.
im sure it would be more realistic to only be allowed to use guns if thats what they are calling for. so why not only have a 30mm version for ins? the map maker is the JTAC lol.

I just don't see it. ZPUs are easy to permanently knock out and good jet (or attack helo) pilots can be extremely difficult (read: impossible) to kill with SAMs.

Which is why there need to be ZPU technicals and deployable ZPUs.ShockUnitBlack wrote:I just don't see it. ZPUs are easy to permanently knock out and good jet (or attack helo) pilots can be extremely difficult (read: impossible) to kill with SAMs.

thats why I starteda 4k afghan map (that I might finish when I get annual leave)
the map is envisaged as having no more than 6 land vehicles for blufor, making them rely almost 100% on air transport, and that means the 1 apache should be doing ALOT of escorting just like in the books

If it was made so that it could only aim down to say a 30 degree angle, it would not be able to effectively attack infantry or armor, and would almost certainly have to be used against air assets only.Murphy wrote:You do realize that even though you limit the turret and ammo of a ZPU techie people will still rape inf with it......I know I would sure love to see this asset made but it would be insanely OP with the right operators.
