The teamwork, the enjoyment, the reality based gaming experience and the people ofcourse, this should sum it up:

Teamwork.
Because nothing else matters in gaming. I don't play single player much anymore. I don't play loner FPS gaming anymore. I play teamwork gaming. Its all I care about and all I strive to experience. PR was the first and best example of unscripted community teamwork I experienced online that wasn't hosted by an othewise unsatisfying game. The teamwork made the game and the game makes for the teamwork.
Scope
Without scope this game wouldn't be nearly as good. The scope allows for some truly broad and fascinating tactical and strategic ideas that are unfortunately lost in most modern shooters, or were never really taken seriously in game design in the mainstream. The scope of being in squads being dropped by helicopters, coordinating with armor, fighting house to house, calling in mortars, and all that could be for just a single flag... no other game in the mainstream.
Gotta go to arma for a potential scope like this, and you can't find Player versus Player like that easily, not with this many players.

I've played one day of it.I got to throw rocks at US vehicles, lead a infantry squad through a street and a mosque, Set IED'S, work with a team to defend a bunker, and almost got roadkilled by a huey. What's not to like?

I play because it can be SUPER challenging, and sometimes it can be extremely easy. Its not like call of duty when you get a rank advancement and get a new gun that owns everything. you gotta use what you have, which includes your mind. Its watered down demonstration of how brutally random real war is always a good reminder of how lucky I am to not live in a 3rd world country warzone.

To be honest, It's the only mod/game I know of that has decent looking Taliban/ Iraqi insurgents. (well except insurgency and ArmA has some.too) That's why I play PR.

Because the infantry really makes my heart pound. BF3, I literally don't give a single fuck about my life, with PR it matters so much more.

I've always played because of the other cool people playing the game, the huge maps, teamwork, the awesome battles, etc., etc., etc... but have noticed some real asshats on the servers lately, people that are killing the game.. I'd call them elitist punks really.
As an example last night on the CIA server (which I have played on a hell of alot), I was on the insurgency side and my squad leader told every one to keep chucking grenades out a tower window where our cache was. One squad member chucked a grenade in the room killing everyone and everyone laughed about it when I was downstairs. So i climb up the ladder and start chucking grenades at enemy when someone climbs up the ladder and bumps me away from the window as I'm a throwing a grenade, so the grenade falls in the room killing myself and everyone in it. I'm punished for 3 teamkills and now banned from the server?? Some rookie admin?? I had said on mumble it was an accident. As someone who plays there so frequently with no issues I'm surprised tbh by this snap judgement on a vet player.
So I see why people are leaving the game, very sad to see really. For someone who loves the gametype so much I'm starting to wonder why I'm still playing now.. This is not an attempt to repeal the ban or anything, at this point I could really give two shits...
So yea, why do you still play PR?

I play due to the other players, true some are asshats but most are ok and work as a team.

I play for that one-in-a-hundred round where everything comes together and PR is played the way it is supposed to be. Otherwise I play it because I find the infantry gameplay more rewarding and more challenging than in other games, plus I keep running into scenarios I haven't experienced before due to the size of the maps, which keeps the game feeling fresh.
ArmAII continually tempts me into making it my shooter of choice, but every time I play it, its lack of polish sends me back to BF2 R.
Really just waiting for 1.0 and the injection of energy it will (hopefully) bring to PR at this point.
