Used to run a lot of learn SQs on TG. I guess its worth giving it a shot while slumming as well.

I am sick and tired of normal players being so low that it drags the newcomers only to their level. Then there is a huge gap and suddenly, Ellititsttieiitsssltitses.

I remember back in the days situation was pretty much the same, but the biggest teamwork came in somewhere inbetween when PR really could be called PR not just BF2 with more damage. Thats where people came in and said "Oh waid, OFP is a bit old now, lets try this!" And so it happened. Now its only "Oh, had enough BF3 for today, lets hop onto PR and see whats happening."

Can't say that clan's aren't a big part. While I most the time am happy to teach new people & even get pissed off at them & rage. I noticed a lot of my own people would rather have nothing to do with new guys.

Slumming sounds a bit elitist.

I remember when I joined that everyone was shouting RTFM!! at everything. Sort of. I also remember a lot of tutorial videos on you tube. And TG had some kind of squad leader courses or something.

But yeah, the "learn" squad is a nice idea. Will try it next time.

Hope there will be more squads for new guys when the next patch comes out. Ingame I don't really care if you're an idiot, as long as you're not an *******. :P

Telling new players to RTFM in text chat is a legit way to help people. If someone is asking basic concept questions, they obviously didn't read the manual, and it's just too hard to explain all the ins and outs of PR in global text chat. I was told to RTFM back when I first started playing, and I found the answers to so many questions I would have asked in the future, and some things I never would have known to ask.

Now, if someone joins your squad and asks for help over voip, I would never scream "RTFM!!!!" at them.

Telling someone to read the manual (which is pretty much a necessity) and telling them if they don't use mumble or that they will never be worth anything to the community and should just quit are two different things.

Also, lol @ elitism being the catchphrase on the 2012 PR forums :-|

Edit:

And if we're going to continually harp on about an essentially meaningless term, let's at least spell it correctly...

Would acting like arrogant children cater to your tastes as a better description of some people?

When people yell Read the manual at people like it's a bible. That's just another way of saying go F*** yourself. Because you simply don't care.

hey, if anyone wants to help the PR community and has HTML know-how, PM me.

Otherwise, y'all have to wait 'till I learn html, and with my schedule, that may neeeeever happen.

No, not really - As I find simply labeling and pontificating about problems to be a tedious and arguably pointless use of peoples' time.

This guy, suits my tastes better. Ya know... doing something about the supposed issue.

For all the rest of it, I just roll my eyes in the most

Well,

Many may not know, but I have been playing Reality Mod for ages since the days of the Gulf of Oman PR mini mod map. And no, I do not post much on the forums (if any at all sometimes). But what I can say is that the easiest way for a new guy to learn is simply watching an effective squad (Ever seen those prWARs guys? Very fun to work with.). It will show you the ropes and there is no harm in asking for help. As long as you are communicating (ie Mumble, VOIP, or even text chat) learning will be easy guaranteed. And you have to remember, these newcomers are not trying to be asshats when they take an asset all by themselves (ie BF3), they do not know any better. As long as you say, "Oh, how about you let squad leader into the driver seat of that truck and wait for the rest of the squad.", they will learn and eventually become a rounded player. Sometimes, you will get the middle-schooler who kicks you in the nuts and runs away with the sniper kit, and thats when as stated earlier you show them the door. So, yes there is an acceptable amount of elitism, but that is fine. What isn't fine is hitting them across the head and saying, "Learn to play n00b.". Well, that's all I have for now. So uh... yeah...

By the way, if anyone wants to play online sometime, I am usually on the CIA Kokan and Napalm server...

Srsly, what's wrong with playing music on mumble, even if it makes certain ploddits explode??
Not everything has to be tacticool milsim blablabla...

Noddy - user received a 2pt infraction for o/t post. Perhaps he should either read the o/p or the gentle warnings of moderators in future ;)

There is a time and a place for music on mumble, for example while in transport or on a long walk and everything is quiet. The one rule to stick by is when someone says stop playing it. you stop playing it.

Most action shooters nowadays are simple compared to PR. Players buy games to relax and have fun. Most players do not want to have a game that you actually have to invest in, to read, to learn.

PR is not such a game.

In today's age, we have gotten catered to have everything the easy way on the internet. May it be Google or an easy way to rent a movie.

In the old days you actually had to work for the fun part. With Boardgames you had to read the rules/manual before you could play it. No computer to try over and over again and figure it out

In my opinion RFTM is a valid response to questions about basic concepts in the game.
When a player walks in on a server, expecting to have everything served as his feet, at no work from himself, I do not take him seriously. Why should I spend my playing time, which is increasingly getting smaller to teach someone the bacis, when that player easily could just read the manual, or google additional youtube videos that explain both tactics & gameplay. We all had to work to get better at PR, that being SL or just a grunt.

Skill takes time and hard work.

I have no problem if a player joins, tells me he is new to the game and takes a rifleman. I will gladly have him in my sqd as long as he listens and follow orders, mistakes included.

But have a player joins, not saying a word and take a sniper to run off, or join expecting me to teach him how to aim, fire, take a weapon, enter a car and complains why there is no radar like in BF2 then no. If he hasn't done his homework, I will send him back to do so.

I have experienced players who, with an arrogant attitude expected me to explain everything to him. When told to read the manual - the response I got was "im to lazy, why don't you just tell me everything"

Remember.....

Before the internet, the village idiot would stay in his village.

AFAIK you don't pay per bandwidth but per server. Doesn't matter how much chatter there is going on, the cost remains the same.
