The camel is such a gimmick... It was built with another mod in mind, and one in which realism was stretched pretty thin. I can't believe I'm still talking about the camel here, but ok, let's have it.
So let's theorize here.
Camel's that poop mines. Real? HARDLY.
Magic carpets? HARDLY.
Would it be a civi if it shat mines? Hardly. It's coded as a vehicle. That's the only way it could be mobile.
Mines? Because in PR you have to lay the mine, and *hopefully* mark it (sans noobian princesses).
Could it possibly carry an ammo box, and drop that? Maybe more realistic.
Could it be coded sort of like the command APC and tents, to where you could order a kit off of it? Yes.
Insurgent mode with a civi kit that could be ordered off of it, and a droppable ammo box might be more like something that would be more realistic. But then again, the only way I could get it to move required that the model's legs stay stationary (they can't move, animate, walk, etc., a limitation of the BF2 game engine).
So how far of a stretch of realism would a magic carpet riding, civi kit giving, mechanical-looking, camel, would this be?
Not very PR if you ask me. I voted NO.
Seriously, just to pull the suspense out of this more, but a PR camel may or may not be what I'm looking for. Maybe I've said too much or maybe I haven't said enough. In any case, the camel is a side show, and you're more than free to keep your heads spinning on this.
