Go buy this if you really want new french voices in or canadian voices.
H4n Handy Recorder

I have it and use it alot for different things. When recording voices I found that my apartment sounded like a church, so I discovered that the best place was either in a studio (too much effort) or in my car. Total silence in the car and no reverb. Best for voices. :)

Andy, I wouldn't go down that way, even if our level of learning foreign languages can be considered as bad (altough I can show you evidence that French educated people have one of the best average notes in English international tests), our level in other fields is as good as other European countries. ;)

zombie-yellow, I didn't know you had French origins, if you manage to record new voices, go for it. :)

Maybe he could also record in the Canadian accent to give them some sort of "alternative" speech, so in Op. Archer they could speak French.

Interesting idea.

Anders, is it possible to have multiple "_alt" in speeches ? For example, have a reload speech "I'm reloading", an _alt "Cover me ! I'm reloading" an _alt2 "I'm out ! Cover me !" etc...

I've seen in the audio files of BF2 that several speeches have an alternative, but only one. If we can have multiple _alt, than it would be interesting to have the Canadian Forces speak English and French, just like SShadowFox said :)

Edit: I just realized that you already quoted SShadowFox  the first part of my post is still valid though :p

It wouldn't work in Kokan for example, because there is the US Army as main Faction, but could work fine in Op. Archer, this is why I mentioned it instead of Kokan.

It could get a feel that in Kokan there are English-Speaking soldiers, while in Archer there are French-Speaking soldiers.

But the game choose which soundfile to play randomly, so it would be a mix :p

I know it's random, but what I meant is to have 2 CF factions, one French-Speaking and other English-Speaking, so when a mapper is going to define the factions of the map, he could put "cf_french" or "cf_english", got it now? It wouldn't make sense having it speaking English and having French as alternative speech for any of the Commo-rose buttons. Why would I place French-Speaking soldiers and English-Speaking soldiers together in a firefight, I bet every Canadian that speaks French also speaks English, but I don't think that's how it works on the other side, so would be better to keep them speaking English.

You're right. For Officers in the Canadian Forces, it is required that they are perfectly bilingual. Soldiers are different. If they're from Quebec, they speak French, obviously, and they are put in the french-speaking regiment. If they don't speak French, well... They're put in any other regiment :p

I don't know if the DEVs want to make two CF factions, though...

It wouldn't have to be an entirely new faction, it should just another setting in the faction_init.con. I can't comment on anything else, but once the voices are in game, adding them to the Canadians shouldn't be hard.
