I use a cheap refurbed logitech stand mic or whatever you call them. I thought I would sound like ****, so I would only speak when I'm spoken to, but everyone seemed to understand me clearly the next few hours of playing! So I just yap my butt off on PR with no problem.
I bought this mic for 2 USD at newegg.
Also noticed when I played L4D2 ages ago, the preteens males in-game sounded like girls, so maybe girls can say they're just young males too so they don't get picked on? I dunno, I never pick of girls online, I just wanna play the game and enjoy it, but sucks when you hear idiots being sexist because they think it's funny.

Say, do most squad leaders and commanders have a problem with voice morphing software? Using it to feminize my voice seems like a fair solution to my specific issue. My problem isn't comments against women in general, it's that my voice is so masculine people think I'm a guy, which I hate (Yes, it is logical to think someone with a male sounding voice in a male dominated game is male. That doesn't make it easier to like being called him/he.), or if they don't mistake me for a guy I get **** for how I sound like a Brumhilda.
Nobody will have a problem with voice morphing. Especially if you're contributing to the squad/team. People might notice it, but you can always just shrug it off and say you don't know how to disable it. I would rather have people use voice morphing than not talking, I'm sure most of the community is the same way.
I really think you're worrying too much about the PR community. Bad experiences in other games don't really apply to this community. PR has some of the most friendly players in any game I've ever played online.
Also, I think the nature of PR is a large reason why we're so nice to each other. When you have to work closely with not only your squad but also the rest of the team, you value them being there. They're not just a name on a list or a voice in a chat, it's more personal.

People will appreaciate that you use you mic and try to work with the squad. I dont think anybody will care if your voice is some kind of strange, and if you will not be mistaken for a guys just use that voice morphing, i think people will not care about this.

Ay girl, seriously, don't worry.
If someone's being a jackoff ask him to stop, if he continue ask the SL to request him to stop, if he joins in or something just leave, they're jackoffs. Apart from those few vulgar examples, I don't think you'd get picked on at all. Most people don't really care, they know what a female generally looks and sounds like, its nothing special. If your voice is a bit weird, I'd still stick to it, no need to be ashamed, I'd think. Just don't sweat it, PR seems like a very serious place but its pretty lax.

I use an old shitty manhatten headset that I pulled apart with the mic laying next to my screen with the input volume all the way up and it works fine. A mic aint expensive. Buy one. If you cant use a mic and give a good reason (too late) I am sure people will let you stay, just dont fly cas or any such.
