I have completely opposite experiences, that's why.

If some pubbies are being complete idiots and will not listen, kick them. Simple as that.
If I join your squad and you kick me immediately, I'm going to think you're a bunch of elitist douchebags.

Believe it or not, some people actually accept being looked at that way. When you're a competent PR player you've got two choices:

1) Play with pubbies which will ruin your round, or 2) Kick pubbies and only play with your competent friends, which will give you a great round with lots of fun.

I've been clanless since coming back at the start of July, and almost always am in a squad with pubs. They function like any other squad.

Of course they do when you've only been in squads with pubbers.

I've played horrible rounds with clan members before, who were completely incompetent, and have had amazing rounds with people who don't know anyone in the squad.

You are biased, don't think you're right at all, you're not. Good pubbies only differ from good clans in trust, because clanners know each other.

I've been running only unlocked 8 man SQs since 1.0 release.

Its super rewarding finding new people to play with. Everyone gets the benefit of the doubt when the round starts.

I can understand wanting to lock a sq and just play with friends as well. Its nice not having to repeat yourself or even not have to vocalize what you want you do. Then have the sq basically read your mind.

If you find yourself leading often I'd say try both till you find the way YOU want to play. If its locked with your clan, fine. Just do the rest of us a favor and use your Sq to Sq mumble channels. So my random player Sq can work with your group of like minded killers.

Alright, well.
I was meaning like, one guy that usually is the squadleader starts the squad closed and then invites us rest.

And I dont know if you know, but there is a bug if you KICK the guy that has a special kit in your squad, you wont be able to have that kit for the rest of the round AT ALL, if the guy you kick disconnects.

Atleast its always that for us so we just got tired on it and skipped the pubby invitations

The waste of squad slots is a major problem mostly because everyone wants to have the ability to put a marker on a target for distance checks or for guidance while driving or flying. That is why CAS squads rarely squad up with Trans or the other way around. Same happens with sniper teams creating more than one squad and calling them "recon" when they never do anything even slightly related to that role.

Any role that requires less than 4 members should not be able to operate within a locked squad, even a CAS/Tank squad can always be teamed up with Trans/IFV squads. Actually, a sniper and spotter should join a CAS squad for direct Comms and Lasing or a Armor Squad to more quickly report possible threats. Or if there is a mortar squad then please join that one and spot for the mortars... that is the purpose of a sniper/spotter unit! To take down priority targets (only!) and provide intel for the other squads. Instead most sniper squads are either 2 man locked squads or free kits squads, which are a total waste of a squad.

I do recon all the time and never use the sniper kit for that purpose and really dislike people calling recon to sniper squads.

My squad only gets locked at 4 to 5 members now days and the main reason for that is because it is a special purpose squad, whether it is recon and sabotage or logistics for example. There is simply no point in having more people in the squad. Having a 6 or 8 man recon squad makes no sense and steals the manpower from normal infantry squads that should take as many members as they can lead. They should divide them into fire-teams if needed be.

I don't however mind letting other specialized players join that squad to do other roles as long as they don't disrupt the comms too much. That can be a sniper team, logistics, etc.

Ideally that would be someone that is on his own TS with his members as I do with mine.

- Quoted post has been removed due to language -

I am currently teaching new players to play the game. Anyone who is willing to listen is good in my book. Mind you, willing to listen. If they just derp off when they obviously hear my orders and should respond, they're out of there. When everything goes well, when it does most the time, I do have a great time, too.
If you learned to actually squad lead, or play properly with people who may or may not be perfect and knew how to act in not so ideal situations, playing with pubbies wouldn't be so horrible.

Cut the personal insults. You don't call people's clans shit, Elitist jackoff is clearly an insult too, 'justified' or not, and saXoni, you shouldn't respond with more cursing and passive-aggressiveness. You two stop now, before I realize I should be infracting you for swearing and/or flaming. I'll be removing the last few posts.

I think a lot of the problem has to do with unlearning years of naming squads for particular assets/roles. I've noticed some great success on the TG server this week with infantry squads incorporating their own APCs or even trans helo. This has slightly eliminated the problem of two man locked trans squads for example. Also, the TG admins have been fairly good about ensuring there are unlocked squads if the the 9 squad slots are being used. Not to say you won't see locked squads but there is room for everyone and there should be no unassigned personnel.

Everyone needs to remember the release is still fairly knew and everyone is still adjusting to 8-man squads and 100 player servers. Players should not be faulted if they elect to play with the clan mates and friends. A lot of the same players I've seen include pub players in their squads when some of their clan friends have to leave. What is even better is when I see a clan run two open unlocked 8-man squads and they cooperate in platoon-like movements.

On the topic of naming squads, is doing something like LOGI/TRANS or ATGM/TANK allowed?

Depends on the server rule, and after that it depends on the map.
First of all the Logi is rarely considered an asset since you don't need a kit to drive it, and everyone needs it like they need a transport truck.
The general rule seems to be that you need to be specific with the asset you want to control, so naming a squad "Armor" is too vague if there is a lot of Armor assets.

For example if you have a squad named " tank " and you don't see any AAV squad you could control an AAV but if someone decides to create an AAV squad you then have to get permission from that squad or hand over your AAV.

These days with the limited squad spaces it is no longer convenient to have an AAV squad though, it is better to keep it with the armor squads.

So MECHINF could basically use tanks if there is no tank squad?

Technically yes I suppose, but there is a high risk that someone will create a tank squad instead of an AAV squad, so then your just wasting your own time driving it back to main.

It would definitely work if your using the Israeli Merkava, otherwise I don't really see why you would use a tank in a mech-inf squad in the first place.

Close infantry and armor operating in urban environments, mostly.

I would never use a tank in a Mech-inf squad because it is damn noisy, and you would have to have some other weak transport for your infantry in order to keep up with it. A stationary tank is a dead tank in PR. Also tanks in an urban environment don't last very long since a HAT guy can just pop up from one of the 250 windows and kill him instantly.

Well, when I go on a server and see 10-15 un-assign players on my team and 1 full "open" MUMBLE squad and the rest CAS/APC/SNIPER/MOTORTEAM locked squads along with a few CLANTAG (2-3 players) locked squad...I get kinda pissed.
