YES! im so glad i read through all this ... nonsense before i posted my 2 cents. RO had it good. a rifleman without any form of optics/scope should not be too terribly accurate. when you pull the gun up in PR, you can see soo much detail, so clearly, that its easy to pick a guy off at great distances with one or two shots. Now, im 19 and never been in the military, but from the little shooting I have done, Id say not everyone (myself included) can pull off those types of shots...

I went with a friend to his National Guard monthly weekend, and we trained on the simulator where they project a battle onto a wall. i got a kill out to about 300 meters, i think, its been a few months and i didnt exactly write down the distance in my journal... but, that took me 5-10 shots before i was certain he was down... (please dont think im saying im an authority on this sort of thing... we also spent the weekend watching jarhead and playing paintball...)

I may have just made myself look stupid, so, dont judge me/this post on that distance, whether too far or too short... but, really, bring the sights up and they just cover some vision and give you two prongs and one prong to line up...simple as that....right?

hmm? was that to me? i meant just dont count my experience as a hearty one. i threw in Jarhead just saying that it was a pretty ridiculous weekend. pay more attention to the whole simulator thing. I know they never ended up shooting anyone in Jarhead though...
i guess i answered my own qiestion there, but yeah, ironsights, id like no zoom like RedOrchestra, but im cool with anything... just loving the mod, cant wait to try it with my new surround sound...

I don't think it's appropriate that red dot sights get more zoom for no reason than ironsights. Wow, just another thing to add to that god damn spec ops kit.

i think the gameplay would be enhanced if players were less accurate, it would definetly require more teamwork

I think you'll find that some folks like iron sights (where folks = people who have used a firearm in real life under life threatening circumstances .. not people who have played America's Army) most servicemen prefer some sort of optical sight because of a variety of benefits. One of those is faster target acquisition. Slightly enhanced zoom is the best way we can model that (somewhat metaphorically) in game.

I don't shoot under life threatening circumstances (and hopefully will never have to). I use an Eotech holo sight and have used an Aimpoint sight as well as ACOG, SUSAT and Elcan scopes. I personally prefer the Eotech and target acquisition is night and day easier with an optical sight than with iron sights. Only criticism I've ever heard of optical sights is that most of them require some sort of battery operated power source which is just another thing to fail / carry.
