Spush wrote:Sounds a lot like what he initially said in this thread. The community is full of elitists... It's a simple question with, you can choose between Iron/Red Dot or 4x Optic by pressing left or right mouse click in the kit selection commo rose, or in the STD, or Alt kit selection screen. Simple as that without sound like an *** hat.
1+ Spush, even though he was referring to changing to BUIS, which is asked almost on every round. Not hard to type "C" into the chat....

They don't. PR's glory days are long behind it. What's left now are the nostalgic and the die hards who are skilled through rote memorization, love the game, and can't remember what it was like to be new and thus think all new players are trolling.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. If you're inclined to stick with it or hang out with Wicca for training you'll find a unique game with plenty of ups and downs. If not, safe travels.

And I'd like to reiterate my previous retraction/apology, had your name not rung the bell of the other person [which was my mistake], I would've had a totally different tone. Like most, I recognize that the community here is shrinking, and I actually like having new people in my squad and teaching them.

I hope my misdirected reports and your treatment due to that did not sour your experience too much. I'd ask that you give the community another chance, although I'd understand if you'd rather not associate with me henceforth :o ops:

It's cool guys. What's done is done, let bygones be bygones. I'm probably going to keep playing Project Reality for a while. I'm enjoying it right now, although it's a massive time-sink.

The past 2 days I've actually witnessed a few instances of harshness towards other new players on servers (seems you guys are getting a lot of them because of 1.2) as well. Which kind of sucks. There are certainly good / more patient people as well, but it only takes one bad or insulting experience to drive new people away from an already niche and difficult to learn game.

I would advise you to use the team or squad chat rather than the all chat if you stumble upon something that is unknown to you, it distracts less people and -given the server is reasonably full- you'll get your answer for sure.

I would also like to apologize for writing you off the way I did, but the title of your thread is rather harsh on a community you only caught a glimpse of. I don't know whether there are still open sign ups for either team, but there's currently a PR tournament going on, organized by the guys at Forgotten Honor - Gaming Together. If you happen to be available during battle times, it's probably the best way to find out what makes this community such a great community: many organized players using teamwork to not only win, but also have a great time. That's what this game is all about for many people, including myself.

Well not all squadleaders are like that. If he did not want to answer a string of questions he should have referenced the forums.

Clearly he asked and referenced about the part in manual of "take rifleman kit with scope of choice."

Not sure why you press C.

..to change scopes. BUIS.

This questions is being raised almost on every round, I am pretty sure he was referring to that, instead of the weapon selection screen.

You didn't read his post.
RouXanthica wrote: One was something I read on the same page of that manual "When you begin playing, it is recommended that you spawn as only a rifleman with a sight of your choice.
This way you can better learn the fundemental basics of gameplay." which I made a shortened quote of in all-chat and asked "How do I change scopes". I thought it was a submenu or something, which is why I didn't understand. I believe on guy said alt and I either missed it or didn't understand, because in most cases pressing alt changed it to a different gun entirely, not scope. Which is where the confusion lied. One guy said kit, which I obviously knew it was in kit, I just didn't know where in kit to click to spawn with a different scope. After making a post expressing my confusion, saying something along the lines "Yes, but where in kit", someone finally explained to me that sometimes it isn't scopes, it's different guns. That ended my curiosity.

Hey Roux, I was in a whole round with you on Arctic Lion as the Dutch with SwamFox as our SL. You really need to set up a mic or use squad chat because you did not communicate with us at all. We didn't really mind because it wasn't a serious game and you weren't taking any special kits. We were all from the previous round on Shikotan and thought you were a troll. However, after your posts I will try to accommodate you if we ever do play together.

On a side note, perhaps we can introduce something with newb prefix so others will understand new players are trying to learn the game.

You know, something similar like driving lessons vehicles we have in the Netherlands with the big L for Loser (not really ofc.) http://www.faalangst-rijschool.nl/Porta ... C_0129.JPG . People tend to get it when you make a mistake on the road.

Something like R-NEW or something similar. You could apply this by getting a warning when you create a new account. "Do you want to start playing with R-NEW tags? This way people will understand you're trying to learn the game and will more likely to help you. Please read the manual before you start playing. Press Yes to start playing with the tags, press Cancel for no prefix" . Or what about FIFA style? Like: "What is your PR experience? Beginner , familiar , Expert" and whenever you chose Beginner, you automatically get a R-NEW prefix and Manual link and when you chose 'familiar' you get only a manual link which includes a Familiar quickstart guide just to refresh the memory.

We really need to appreciate new players more and I think a little addon like this could give us a go into the right direction.

EDIT: I remember servers having the "THIS IS NOT A TRAINING SERVER, IF YOU WANT TO LEARN HOW TO FLY PLEASE FIND AN OTHER SERVER" warning. As there are not so many servers around and the 'training' servers being deleted, we could be a less harsh on the new players. I know this is more up to the admins, but we could change the tone a bit like: "R-NEW Players please consider not to fly if it's your first time". And R-NEW players should consider not to fly in public until they think they are capable to.

That's a good idea, but an easy version of it would be to simply ask them, lately I played in a lot of squads where the SL asked everyone since when they've been playing, or if anyone's new, and if there was anyone new the others knew and would try to help them as much as possible.

Fact is when they don't say they're new and take special kits and then do shit with it because they didn't even ask us to explain how to is really annoying and frustrating and this I guess could tend to some people to get mad, especially when it happens a lot.
I know lately I've been confronted to a lot of noob medics, and as a medic myself I try to explain to them but sometimes they just don't listen and can't revive or heal properly and... medic being a critical role ingame, it's really disturbing.

Whenever there is a new player, the first thing I teach them is how to revive and heal. Since he might be forced to pick up the kit in a firefight.

Don't be ridiculous, the community is fine, as long as you all remember that I'm better than you. Now go away and read the manual. Particularly the new chapter I'm about to include; "Why I'm so much better than all of you noobs".

:p

I know most of you guys do your best to welcome new players and I know how frustrating it can be when people don't have a clue how to do certain things because they haven't read the manual, but seriously, a lot of players, good ones too, don't read the manual and just find their feet by playing. As long as someone is asking politely for advice it would be great to help them out without just telling them to rtfm, although you could say something like 'this is how you... blah blah blah... it's definitely worth checking out the manual at some point as it can really help you out when you're getting started.'

So next time I'm ingame and asking how you do something please be gentle! :p Because I'm busy making maps I don't get much time to play, which is also why I suck. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
