Those things arent possible in bf2 or would be way easier to do in 2142. We wont be making any attempt at switching any time soon. As already said the login system of 2142 is broken (no gamespy) and would require a different master server. Also all the stuff done through launcher would have to be redone with 2142 in mind.

Well this is a fun development.

Should we advertise this forthcoming feature to attract more players, or would it be best to keep a low profile?

We could potentially get a big influx of players many of which could turn into useful members of the community, so lets get our friendly hats on and try to make sure servers have admins if we suddenly get lots more filled than usual.

well my video is kinda taking off unexpectedly... I mean its weird cause this is awesome and worthy of a big announcement, but at the same time I kinda wanna keep it on the DL so we don't offend EA

I think EA doesn't care as long as you are not actually selling the standalone version. God knows what they care.

And I just bought a reserve copy of BF2 like 1 month ago because I couldn't find my original. So I would be secure if I would buy a new pc/laptop

It would be possible on the BF2 engine but it simply isn't feasible. We did set the Zhi-9/Panther chopper series to having working gauges which basically uses the same code as the "3D HUD" but at the end of the day it simply required far too many moving parts which there is only a limited number of moving parts you can have on a vehicle and then the code required to make them work was seriously complex and at the end of the day, simply wasn't worth it.

Wait... What? Isn't it illegal to create a standalone mod? I see someone post "EA doesn't care" but I thought PR were really cautious about things like this?

You can still play BF2, online and everything. Go here: BF2 Battlelog - Home and download the "Revive BF2 Launcher Client".

Seriously though you can get games on steam that are older than some players here (by the way gabriel knight 20th anniversary edition is out). Why would they kill BF2? Too much mod?

You can still play the game most of us love, just go to BF2Hub. Don't use Battlelog.

Yeah split up the community more instead of joining efforts. Exactly the thing the community needs.. AM releases his masterserver code opensource the same month gamespy shut down. Do you really need this competition? Do like we and FH2 do. Join forces.
