For all guys with a good amount of experience playing this game, grap a SL kit and just learn people how to play.

As a squad leader,

1. Continually check your map, make sure people are where you want them to be, because lot's of them will not if you do not tell them to. To be succesfull, you have to stay toghether!

2. Make sure you have FOBs where you need them before the enemy attacks

3. Tell them not to take vehicles you don't want to. (Asset rules!)

4. Tell them to stick to the kit they are using, and not to grap useless ones, like a sniper in CQB...

5. Try to have an experienced player using a medic kit. It will keep your suqad toghether, and you will not be killed right after being revived. I saw that happening a lot. You can get a second unexperienced medic to learn how to play like one.

6. Always explain why you are moveing out, why you are defending the things you are defending, why you are flanking around, why you should walk the last hunderd meter to the frontline instead of rushing in, why they should watch their map before engaging (big problem), it will make them understand how to play far better.

7. Give all sort of advise to players, if you have an un-experienced AR, tell him what the deployed mode is, tell him about set-up time, and the supressing function of AR's. If you have a new player using AT, tell him about range. And aiming below or above. They may not Always use it good right away, but they will gain experience. I got a completely new guy into driving an AAVP-7, we had tons of fun, good game play, and destroyed 3 trucks, 2 jeeps and a BTR and killed some infantry as well.

8. Last but not least, don't kick non-mumble player from your squad right away. Tell them that it is really neccesarry to get one, and that they should ASAP. But still, you can let them play, just get them a rifleman and let them move along with you. If they like the game they will realise soon enough that they should really get one.

If you stay positive towards the new players they will gain experience fast, and the community will grow!

Enjoy!

There will always be a number of ignorants and ********. but thats nothing to rant about here, since its just the minority of new players anyway. you have to think positive and try to make the best out of the situation so it will ultimately help PR in the long run.
so far im having a really great time squadleading the last days with a lot of new players. 90% of them were willing to learn and listen, with the only problem sometimes being people having no mic. but its cool, i just encourage them in a friendly way to get a working mic asap. of course sometimes you have a guy who doesnt have a mic and doesnt use the normal chat aswell. but it was 1 guy like that at max when i was playing. then they wander around on their own not responding, but as long as it is only 1 or 2 guys its not that awful, you can still do alot with 6 people. my theory is that maybe you can convert some of those ignorants by keeping them in the squad and hopefully making them curious by having great and dramatic situations on mumble making them think "holy fuck thats sounds exciting and awesome".
and keep also in mind that even if there are some chaotic squads lead by noobs doing random things, there will always be at least 2-4 other squads trying their best with a squadleader who knows what he is doing. try as hard as possible to get a good teamwork going with those few squads and i will guarantee you that will make a huge difference. dont forget that in most cases the enemy team has as much new players as you do! and having only 2-3 squads working together effectively is in most cases enough to turn the tides and win the map and to last but not least HAVE FUN!
so put away your frustration, get your shit together and do something good with the new situation!

i've never lead a squad before 1.3 was released, now im doing it almost exclusively and very successful and so far im having a blast with all the motivated new players.

I will say this.

Whenever I try to advertise PR on forums, and when I see others do so, the same answer always comes up: "I don't play Project Reality, because the players are so incredibly hostile".

Face it, no matter how much you tell newcomers to do a couple practice rounds offline, read the manual, and then join a squad as a rifleman, new players are not going to know how to play the game, and many of them are going to do "stupid" things. At which point you have the choice of being bitter and hostile, or focus on the fact that PR has gotten a huge influx of new blood. Said new blood is far more likely to stick around if they're met with a welcoming tone, instead of being berated.

If you for example have a squad leader who is a newcomer, be constructive and explain how to call for supplies so he can get an officer kit and start building defenses. You are all on the same team.

To OP - Just report the SL to admins. It's their job to look after these kind of things. If SL isn't performing as an SL, he's basically just wasting a squad slot and thus he will be removed, his squad dissolved by admins, and therefore you can make a new squad and get all the people that got scattered with the dissolution of the "bad SLs' squad" back into your new made squad.

I played for the first time yesterday (in five years almost), and all I can say is after years of Red Orchestra 2 (the sad farce that was the sequal imho) and insurgency, I found the community very welcoming and other noobies like me were all trying and had a very good time!

I think as long as everybody keeps trying to learn a lot of the new people will stay and get better hopefully!

Beginner here

We played 1942, BF2, BF3, BF4 and Hardline and are sick of the "gameplay" beyond believe.
So the standalone release of PR1.3 came just right.

My friend and I tried very hard to practice in COOP, with no success due to connection-issues (Thread: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr ... -coop.html)

We tried our best and joined a public server (100players AAS)
First thing we did was a bit messing around in Base (controls, weapon-handling and so on).
Then we joined a Squad named (German/Deutsch) and those guys were awesome.
We told them we are new and had no clue.

After 5 Minutes we understood the basic mechanics and tactics (building Rally points, defenses, unforgiving spawn system and so on). Our first round was a hell lot of fun and we are doing quite decent now :)

We already like the game so much and its awesome how helpful those guys were.
In other games we would have been called "feggits LEL"

First awesome moment: Squadleader tries to build a MG-Defense and like 10 people were watching that pile of dirt (unbuilt) and discussing its location

Sorry to hear about your bad experience, but from an old skool noob opinion, I'm so happy to see that player number hit 1500+....it's been a loooong time. ;)

To OP, patients is a virtue mate.

Wing Walker wrote:Hey, don't worry about that, just create a local and you can run the map yourself and play around with everything.
Sure, but we had issues with playing it together (over internet/hamachi).
The guys in the thread wrote some tips, gonna try it out later.

Playing alone does not make much sense, the bots do not follow my orders and I can not build any RallyPoint or even forward bases :(

That feel when I am almost 26 and still got a young voice (and will probably always do).

Just lead and chill.

You can build forward bases in PR Co-Op. They just don't need shovels for construction, instead they appear fully built, which can be hilariously gamey if employed correclty (insta-building a HMG in the face of advancing enemy infantry, for example :mrgreen :) . I've placed rally points repeatedly in Co-Op, too.

've enjoyed all those newbies in fact. Me myself mostly playing as a squad leader experienced a lot of anal pain with oldfags who knows what to do better than leader. Newbies are mostly harmful and can't hit anything, but they're trying to stay close to you, at least if you give them interesting tasks.

Talk to them. Make them read manual. Make them love this game. Have fun.

So I read the OP and I see why certain communities and guys like Shacktac, DDG etc. avoid playing a PR because of the irritating people who complain about Noobs etc. and It makes me sick because I see this on the FCV server sometimes and I'm quick to point out on all chat and using the say command that you were once a noob as well so be helpful and be respectful to new PR players. Like you just don't understand how much that makes me mad when I see this type of stuff especially when people comment "read the manual" because I remember when I first started playing PR around 2007 people would kick me out the squad or even kick me off the server because I was a new player. At some point it made me want to uninstall the damn mod but thanks to some kind players who play showed me the ropes to the point that I can squad lead and go commander etc. so I can imagine how many others uninstall the mod due to "PR vets" and trust me I see some very hateful and mean comments on all chat to new players when they ask about how to use mumble etc. and these be the same damn people who worry about PR dying or low population servers. Each time I see people who join my squad and state that they are knew I welcome them and you know each time they say "damn other squads kicks me out etc because I'm new". I'm just glad I see people who are helping new players out. So bro don't get mad if see new players squad leading if anything be glad you see new players being a squad leader like others said they will learn the way at the end of the day it's only a game don't care how much you lose or your team sucks.

its always like this after new release. eventually the people who get bored leave the mod and those who want to take on the steep learning curve stay.
