ingame, my clanmates use TS exclusively. it has far better audio quality. 90% of voip users can barely be heard on my end. just for the record, i do use it to communicate with indies who are in my squad. i just sometimes forget to use it as i've been using TS for years.

Sadly the default setting is to have mic boost off in BF2 VOIP. Without the mic boost, noone seems to be audible using the in-game VOIP.
The verbal brutality found on forums is often reminiscent of the physical brutality found in first person shooters, except that forums allow those with slower reflexes to join the carnage without a handicap.

I guess the more voip using players are also the people who are more inclined to be on the forums. There is no way 70% of online players use VOIP at all.

Yeah, I even doubt there are 109 players who use it all the time at all... :D

But most of time its a great help.
Who cares if someone speaks with an accent, you know lot of peoples English is not the native langauge.

I just turned it on so I could hear others. It lags my vent though. And people can't hear me because I can't enable the mic boost.

People who want to understand their squad mates, that's who cares :| . I can deal with a subtle accent, but when its obnoxiously thick to a point where I have no idea what they're saying, it just blocks out the noises of battle.

Though VOIP can be a VERY valuable tool I rarely use it. The only time I use it is when I am actually able to hear fellow squad members (or if I'm squad leader I use it when my squad is actually paying attention and sticking with me - rarely happens :( ). Even though I have the mic boost gain on, I can barely make out what people say.

Most the time I use TeamSpeak and communicate that way - it tends to work very well!!!

I have a mic, but I chose the third option. I live with a roommate, so I offer him the common courtesy of me not yelling battle commands when he's trying to do work. I know I'd sure as hell be pissed if I heard him constantly yelling "Sniper!".

I do use the in-game text a lot, though. I find it frustrating when people create "VOIP Only" squads, because I still communicate more than a lot of people who DO have mics. And I always listen to everyone else, especially the squad leader, so I don't see what the issue is. I can type "sniper on the tall building above West City" nearly as quickly as I can say it.

Mic boost amplifies your own output volume. If you can't hear other people, it is probably because they don't have their mic boost enabled.

I always use VOIP in PR.
Without it there's no cohesion within the squad, and teamwork is really hard to organize.
Nephrmuus wrote:I can't see any real reasons to turn off your VOIP so you can't hear your squad, and particularly your squad-leader
I totally agree!

LOL :-o There's actually software available for this that transforms a female's voice into a male one in-game. It's made specifically for female gamers who are sick of male gamers with testosterone overdoses. (And it can of course also be used by guys who prefer to talk with a female voice.... )

I have told you of that one time where one started harping away at me cause he didn't like little boys playing a mans game? Then when it was established that I was female and twice HIS age, he said: But you have such a deep manly voice?

WTF! Some players are just idiots.

According to this poll...

The majority of people who frequent the forums/answered the poll use VoIP. If that is the case, then why does it seem that on most public servers, most people do not have a mic or don't use one???

Because most people who play the game don't post on the forum. I don't mind if someone doesn't have a mic when I create a VOIP squad, more important is that they do what they're told and reply using text, voice over commands, and spotted stuff, and just be an all around good teamplayer.

Ah ok. So it's not my fault after all :D

I still prefer to use TS or Vent over VOIP though.

Does the Squad Name "VOIP ARMOR" give it away whether I use VoIP or not? =)
