The C130 does transport armor but it is not capable of sending it out of the backdoor at 10000ft, well it could but it would be a big parachute to stop the fucker bouncing off the floor at terminal velocity lol

From the documentary's i have seen it is a touch down and dust off without stopping, basically it opens the door touches down and they open a chute attached to each piece of equipment which drags it out of the back door and onto the ground (if memory serves they had to upgrade the suspension on some of the armor to deal with the impact on the floor) then it just keeps on going and takes off again minimising its time on the floor in hostile areas

Who's "we"? Are you a modeller?
It's not a question of "can", but "want".

Actually Spectres will fly at any time of day in the current theatres due to the low AAA threat. They hang back outside of smallarms and pound the living hell outta whoever is unlucky enough to be under their guns.

Well for one its the AC-130 XD and it has 1 GAU-12 (curently used as part of the CIWS Phalnax system) 1 40mm bofors and a 105mm howitzer) there are versions with different loadouts.

And two it IS used at night previously stated although is sometimes used in safe airspace in the day and is still in service with the USAF Special Operations command.

And three wont it be two big? i mean it will be like 4 blackhawks long LOL

it would be awesome but alomst imposible to use.

Someone used the search function! Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Anyway, yeah, it'd probably be too much of a target if you could shoot it down - there's a limit for how high you can fly as well, which is well below real operating altitude for those things, as far as I know - and if you can't shoot it down, that's just retarded.

Yes, usually at night in un-secured airspace.
But they have been known to carry out day-time operations in friendly airspace.

I read it somewhere in the thread before, but wouldn't it be best to just have a C-130 up in the sky as a static, and make a spawn point inside it with standard 1 man guns that have a TV screen (much like hell fires,) this solves the 8 man limit problem with it being a static and then the only problem left is the parachutes and I see 2 ways that this could be done.

1. Make all kits equipped with a parachute which would be a small pain.

2. Make the place as a main base so that you can request a pilot kit from it, and leave a recon area on the ground (would probably be an insurgent magnet) where you can request a new kit from, however this defies the point of being able to para-drop in. This would mean that you could spawn and parachute, but have to steal a kit to fight properly with (a problem for officers.)

I believe it has been discussed before, and I think a R-CON, Marcoelnk I believe, is making an air map, could be wrong.

A few points to raise about this.

1) Wouldn't the runways need to be longer and wider?
2) Does the proposition include 1 man pilot, and 1 for each of the 3 guns? Or would one crewman do them all?

Just sounds a bit of hard work to me.

Sounds awesome! Is this "Air" map going to be a strictly Air to Air combat? Or more of a major air asset focus, with a little infantry/armor below?

It would not be piloted I assume for the pure reason that it brings into play the 8-man limit.

For the time a AC-130 is too big for PR. Until its made we wont know 100%.

But adding it in as a artillery option is a good idea. We wold have to talk about different rounds coming down as the AC-130 has...three different types?

thread title changed to the correct name.
