Would be cool if a server ran maps with long view distances for us with super computers and have other servers with foggy maps for all the other people. lol

It would also make armored and air combat more realistic. No more A10s flying 10 feet infront of their target to actually see it.

So its fair for low end computers to make high end computers have short view distances but if the high end computer wants high view distance its not fair? I dont get that....

It seems statics are not rendering as far as the land is. Look at the suburb island in those shots above, most buildings are not there.

Helmand on 1000M.
Believe it or not, I got the same FPS on the 1000m view distance as I did on the un-edited one.

man, the city does look so small.. wonder if my computer could handle it, I'd have to imagine the ceiling would need to be raised for A-10s.. is that even possible? can someone take some screens of the A-10 strafing a building or something from high up?

@ DEVS
So any news on how creating a "lag free"
4km square map with a 800m draw distance is coming along???????
Have you even started, if not, how far you got, any major problems, small issues ext.
Considering the Challenger 2 is coming along just nicely, it only seems appropriate to aks about the area it will be battleing victoriously on, or more precisely, where it will chew up MEC and PLA tanks by the dozen (only when operated by the
few ofcourse) ?
@ Desertfox
Any chance of a few more shots of Helmand, like around the centre area and around the open ground to the west, espcially while standing on one of the buildings or earth mounds - one of the best maps, therefore i want to know how it could be....!

It will be awesome to set a tank/plane map with 4km square 800m view distance. with no lods of statics, Like an 4Km Alamein.

Ok so in your eyes someone who downloads a no fog hack is fair aswell ? Cause you can simply download it aswell right ? Just like other people could upgrade their PC's aswell... You don't want to play with no fog ...just don't download it ....
Please, we are talking about a game here, which means everything has to be the same for everyone, giving no advantages to anyone.
Looking at the minimum specs needed to play this game means limiting the viewdistance for everyone so everyone can have a fair game. Not really rocketscience now is it.
Seriously what do you think these low end pc users will do if they implemented your plan, seeing how all the high end users, can pick them off before they even saw the high end user. They would stop playing all together and move to a game where skill=skill and not good pc > skill. And how is it in your eyes that limiting the viewdistance for highend users (just like everyone else) isn't fair exactely? You still see as much as everyone else, unlike the other way around.

My dream (one of many - PR related!):
2 - Challenger 2 tanks
1 - Gazel Scout heli choper
1 - ChallengeR Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicle (CRARRV)
Why: well the all the 4 vehicle MUSt work together to achieve success, again possible a similarly well armoured/deadly enemy, operating tanks aswell. The not yet modeled but screw you, come on guys get with it, CRARRV would both repair the C2s - vital becuase of seriously long repswn time on C2 but not realisticaly but not major issue, has the ability repair bridges. With the such a large map, divided up by a river or 2, with 4 ish destroyed bridges, the use of the CRARRV would be vital for the C2's to move across the map and for infantry aswell.
The scout heli, being the main and best way for enemy tanks - the biggest/greatest threat to be IDed and tracked - failure to comm enemy tank possition, could enable enemy to out flank and take out UK main and in this case, only advantage!
SO WHAT you think of above, on this on a 4km map with 800m draw distance?

Engineer wrote:Lag is the wrong word to describe such thing. Lag is a network problem where things happen way too later than they are supposed to happen. If you have a low FPS, thats not lag, its just poor performance.
So, if you get 'connection problems', thats lag. If you get under 20 fps, thats sucky performance.

I think your wrong. If your gonna correct someone, get it right.
His computer fails to keep up with the inputs he gives the game, thus it is fair to call it lag.

"graphic lag" is better defined as low framerate. If you guys are so worried about high viewdistances giving you poor performance on your computer, you can sacrifice a few of those graphic settings. If they're all at low and you still have bad performance, you'd have no choice to set the viewdistance down. Really, I don't see a problem upping the viewdistances if we had a notifications that PR is a lot more graphic intensive than vBF2. Good for everybody since viewdistance>2048x2048 pixel shadow maps.

I wonder what Blakejr will do when he sees this thread. His computer can barely handle BF2 as it is. Give the guy a break.

Looks like its time to upgrade. I want the sickness.

so...what would happen to my mid-low graphics specs comp if we had the UBER viewdistance in there?
...mongol...

You'd turn down the view distance to what it is now. Though this will only really benefit pilots and snipers.. not a huge issue on Basra, as most pilots are fools atm and Snipers are easy enough to avoid.
