I play Medic most of the time unless there is a request to play something else. I always hated being able to heal one self without limitation.
Obviously if we could easily fix the Rifleman bandages ad nauseum we would have fixed it.

I get that eggman, but I playing adaption of a another game where the medic could not heal themself ... that just killed the "medic". I guess where you will succeed is with the body armour and medipacks.
I hope.

Just read this one, if anyone, just read it through.
Joint Operations: Reality (hence JO:R) did the same move. Medics could not heal oneself. They did not have medipacks. The result? Absolutely NOBODY played medic. With exception of those that did not care about score, but keeping the others safe and help them statspad.
Bah, get your facts straight, you cant heal yourself in Joint Operations or Delta Force games, medic packs were never made that way...they dont even have classes in DF Xtreme, so only way to heal someone is by pick-ups or with the mods, where they have the med pack...
I may have mis-read something, but JO:R sucked anyways...well, since it was never completed, 0.25 is latest...and only "custom content" they had, is ripped off stuff from the official expansion pack and Black Hawk Down...

are people selfish ? yes
do people still care about stats ? yes
will people play a class that is essentialy a rifle man now with no nades but a pack that can heal somebody else ? no
ps. you can get a tonne of bandages quickly out of the ammo packs you just have to chuck down 3 at once and crouch on top of them.

You can still use your Med pack to heal yourself. But the thing is that you will have to look down in order for it to work. You can still heal yourself but with limitations.. Don't forget the Field Dressings aswell.

dunno where the complaining is coming from..medic just got a HUGE buff. the only thing that will make medics less used now is the optics for the rifleman(us side). they are the same as before, but now have armor and extra dressings..oh, and you have to look down to heal yourself..big whoop.

Yep, I think it's stupid too.

The wiki didn't mention the ability (which is actually a bug, it seems) for the medic to heal himself while looking straight down.
I'm actually fine with that.
It's just that the ability NOT to heal himself at all (except for field dressings) would be incredibly stupid to me, but alas.

imo, if you wanna play a class in which you are able to heal yourself, youll still play rifleman.... (i do), i never used a medic only because of its ability to heal himself... again, i believe the bigger problem is with the rifleman having illimited field dressing.... Maybe if instead of needing ammo bags to resupply your field dressing, you would need to stay close to a medic bag, that could fix part of the problem (for the rifleman class at least....)

Well, but I doubt someone is going to fix that (I hope

)...since if you have to look down to heal yourself, youre a sitting duck, as I mentioned before...

if you have your pack out healing yourself and someone sees you, you are also a sitting duck..you should be in a safe spot to heal in the first place.

Yeah, because if you are shot in real life and are trying to save your right arm from losing too much blood you arn't much of a sitting duck, ITS GOOD that medics actually have to be active in healing themselves, no more medics running along sprinting healing themselves, it'll be so much better.
To those people who are saying "Who would want to play as a rifleman without nades who can only heal other people?" I will, and I know many others who will as well. Project Reality is all about teamwork, and I find it insulting you can argue such a stupid point. The people who really play medic at the moment, such as me don't do it for the auto-heal but to help our team. I beleive many people here can argee that that is a very big reason indeed.
I actually prefer rifleman, and hardly ever use the bandade + ammo pack to heal unless my first one doesnt stop the bleeding. I only go medic when my team needs a decent one.
(I apologise for gramma, its late and I cant be assed spending too much time on it.)

Give the medic grenades.
No reason why he shouldn't have them, and they are darn useful.
But only give him one to reduce spamming.

I would love grenades as a medic but I think that if they added them the medics would basically become riflemen with healing capibilities. I know they basically are in real life, but you need more training in real life to be able to heal otherwise everybody would be a medic, which is what would happen to the medic class.

It will be a change. Sure of it. How it will effect the gameplay? Let's see. We already had a steady decline of medics in the last two "patches". Hell, even I think "f... it. I aint gonna help some other smuck to get that 'best killscore ever' because of MY account, and then just leave me to die."
And that, gentlemen, is a reality.

Very well said, couldn't agree more.
I consider myself a dedicated player of the medic class, I played that in vanilla most of the time and in absolutely every round of PR I played so far, too, unless my SL ordered me to spawn using another kit.
However, it is not rare that I ended up as the only medic in my squad and indeed I've seen whole squads on 64 player servers without medic for several rounds.
I personally will wait how this turns out. As of now, I have a solid >1 KDR, overall and per round, which is not overwhelming, but enough for me, especially as I consider myself still far in the beginning of the learning curve. If, however, I end up with a significant drop of that because no one else plays medic and no one picks up my kit to revive, I'll just stop playing medic, too. After all, a well-placed noob-tube shot, a well-thrown grenade or SLAMs placed in a nice spot do wonders for the kill count, so why would I bother with only 7 rifle clips of which I maybe never get to fire 5 or 6, while others use weapons with splash damage or aim helpers like the M4's scope?
I love how many expect an improvement in teamplay and squadmembers to protect their medic, but I have serious doubt that's going to happen and I say that besides I have found a few players I play with regularly and who do indeed work quite good as a squad.

Just wait and see....some just wont like being a medic, cos they would need skillz...

Bring back medic healing! Bring back throwable medipacks that recharge and heal instantly! I want Squad hopping back! I want vehicles to instantly respawn after they are destroyed! Wahwahwah!

...Wait, so medics can still heal themselves? (albeit whilst looking downwards) That sounds fine and dandy to me.
I'm still more irritated by the fact that we'll be losing shock-paddles, as I'm more of a necromancer than a healer. But the fact remains that those field dressing thingies are a bit cack (if you've got to the "hacking and coughing, with the REALLY ANNOYING screen distortion", they do diddley squit), and that a dead medic is no use to anybody.
EDIT: Reading that thread that someone posted, Ferris Bueller is expressing almost exactly my point of view on this matter, and with more eloquence then I could possibly muster. Go Ferris, you crazy diamond!
Also, sorry to go off-topic but L1thium also brought up a good point:

And to be honest, I'm getting real tired of being force fed a steady diet of infantry maps. BF2 was designed for large, combined arms battles. Tanks, helo's, dogfights overhead, bombers, transports, etc. It seems like we never play maps that have anything other than a constant focus on infantry battles. Now they are removing one of the few vehicle rich maps we have. I'm getting tired of the rotation. Bah.
