Alright, 4 more exams then it's just 2 weeks of bludging school. I reckon I'm gonna give mapping a shot as you don't need any fancy expensive programmes.

Cheers for the Tutorials Rhino,

Hi all hope I have posted this in the right spot

I have been doing the tuts and found them very handy and they have become my bible for bf2 mapping.

But while I was building this big map 512 x4 I have come across a lot of problems. One of the problems is that I can see throw the textures when testing the map on a local server.

I have also done a bf2 shortcut so I can run the game in window mod and at 800 x 600 allowing me to see any errors. But the problem is that the game crashers now i have set up overgrowth textures and will not load past 16% and the bf2 local server crashers back to desktop with no error? :-(

I have done screen shots of all the data in the bf2 editor.
Just note that the file is 13 MB big. Also note you will have to Zoom in to see the script as the screenshot has all the map info from start to the point i am now.

Download JPG page here: 2 scripts joined.jpg

Direct link to download: http://download262.mediafire.com/ksly1w ... joined.jpg

Also I have done a recording on wegames to show you what problems I was having before I added overgrowth

my first map just testing

Please if you can help me in anyway I would be ever so great full. :15_cheers

you should not do a 512x4 map, do a 1024x2 map which is the same size but higher quality and less problems. The only time you want to think of doing a scale 4 map is for a 1024x4 map.

I'm starting with the smallest size as told in the tutorials ... but thank you very much Rhino. I'll try to make some serious maps after I know what to do after those tutorials. ;)

I know this has already been answered, but when I start BF2 editor, which mod do I choose? BF2 or PR?

Also, when I start the editor, I get an exception error.

I am running with 2 GB RAM, 4.2 gHz processor, 320 GB hard drive

It depends on which mod you would like to work :)

...but If I were you I would choose pr_edit ;)

when doing the first basic tuts its best to use BF2, then move onto PR once you have finished them with the "pr_edit" mod.

Slight problem, when I go into 'Level settings' to change the Factions, the window is too big and I can't hit 'Okay', I can't make it smaller and i've tried making every dammned other window smaller as well.

Oh and even though I save it exactly how it says, when I load up vBF2 it's never on the (Create local) map list.

dont do factions by the editor, do them by hand in the init.con...

and edit your .desc file to include a game mode and size.

do not edit in the editor but manually in the init.con

At the add-in manager part of terrain editor, the editor just crashes and closes down.

I have Windows vista 64-bit, but I run in XP Compatibility Mode. How do i fix this?

EDIT: Now I have another problem. When I select BF2 from the mods list, it just generates an exception error.
