I must say I do not understand your desire for a downloadable guide, Beerhunter. I got the impression from your thread that you want it to have a reference ready on paper, but honestly, I think you should have read the guides before playing. The types of articles I intend to write are ill suited for reading mid-game.

That would be an exploit. Anything that goes against the nature of how the developers intended the game to be played is an exploit and what you describe certainly falls in that category.

I intend to write an article on my ideas of sportsmanship at some point. Personally, I place quite a lot of restrictions on how I play, both out of respect for the mod and to make the game more of a simulator.

stradegist, ive played with u before, and your tactics suck, atleast u being a commader sucks.

ive played with u as commander on assult on mestia and u had 1 sqaud defending a fort (as brits) witch consisted of 5 people and a rally, while u had 2 full sqaud assulting the other flag, and then u asked us what was up when we had 2 sqaud leaders with atleast 8 guys run us over and cap the flags. and you bitched me out over the voip, and u never understood that it was a greater force vs a weaker force.

the on 7 gates u would not set up a fire base to the east of the south main so we could use SOME, very little cover to assult, untill a hhalf hour later u set it up and then it got rocketed, cuz u put it out in the open....

this is why i do not play with u as a commander, much less a sqaud leader. nice idea, just practice what you preach.

[PR]Zack ftw!!!!

If you want me to take you seriously at least drop the 1337-sp34k. I am not even going to bother reading your post till you do.

I do not feel a need to excuse myself to you, but when I played in the VietnamCombat tournament I wrote some posts that the tournament leaders were very impressed with and asked me to join the Command Staff, so at least some people recognize my ideas.

Work on the list of common basic mistakes is now well underway. It is far from complete, however. I fear this is going to become a very long list. I would like to know what you think of it so far. You can also post your own observations on mistakes and I will then incorporate them.

raptor619 I don't know how strategist is as a commander and you have a right to your opinion. But try using more mature words and tact i.e don't use the word "suck". He is trying to help the community out here with the guides. His ideas may not be perfect but he is open to suggestions on the guides.

Here is what I found so far:

Common mistakes section:

- Move title of never going solo in a vehicle right underneath the use the vehilces for transport. You want to make sure they udnerstand that the vehicles are not taxis, there for the squad/team.

- "accurate .5 cal cannon" This is from the first section. I believe it is a heavy machine gun not a cannon.

Looks good so far. Maybe make this section a little less wordy. You want to hit home the basics here in an easy to digest way. I like what you've done but if it gets lengthy people will not read it all. Be sure to put the most important points first and descend from there. To me the squad and teamwork section you wrote may be the most important.

I second the part about too much text. Most people do not want to read a ton of text telling them what not to do.

Also I would try to order your points by importance and if 2 of them need to be close together for logical reasons maybe integrate them into a single paragraph.

That's just my view on the basic style. If I find more time I will look more into all the points your guide covers.

Maybe there is a difference between writing an article telling people how to play and actually being able to play ?
It is one thing to write that a fire base is needed at such and such a time and such and such a place,,,,,,and actually placing that firebase, in a timely fashion and in a place where it is likely to survive.

I just thought I would also mention that " leetspeak" is very common and not difficult to decipher so I find that a lame way to dodge a detailed account of a poor commander.

I got an idea for ya. Go to most any Military Surplus store and check the book section. You may be able to find a Military issue manual titled "Battle Drills for the Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad". No need to reinvent the wheel.

Please forgive my ignorance, but could someone tell what the hell a "1337-sp34k" is. And why would he want someone to drop it?

Hell yeah, that's what I was talking about! Great find! I can't believe you found that online. Guess nothing is sacred anymore. Oh well, I'm gonna go check it out and see if there are any changes.

Hmm... now we just need someone to revisit that guide and see how the spawning system and other BF2 & PR specifics alter the viability of some tactics and drills covered in it...

Surely not a bad find but this thing was written for people operating outside of BF2...

EDIT: Just read this part:

Infantry platoon and squad leaders must be tacticians. They cannot rely on a book to solve tactical problems.

OK it seems we do not need any strategy guides ;) Wonder why they even bothered to write more in this field manual...

It is to be studied and master before ever engaging in combat operations. Once the shit hits the fan it's too late for book learning. It is funny though. Maybe they should have put that at the end of the book :)

There's more field manuals here. Items of interest are weapon operating manuals, which you can use to see how realistically US weapons are modeled in various games.

What Spearhead said.

Besides, those guides are way too advanced. Some very advanced players might find them useful but they do not belong in the wiki - at least not as more than a link.

When I first started to read this thread I must admit, I was thinking ... "yeah ... and what does this chump think he can learn us?"

I want to underline chump, yet I found myself reading most of it. I like it. Cut the cussing, cut the "smartass" comments, you might be on to something. I read it. The whole damn thing.

And I don't impress by anything or anyone. I like the 'keep it simple, straight to the answers'. Just don't sell yourself or your "aids" short. Keep it (as the americans call it) tight.

You might be on to something. Keep it up.

Oh, and one last comment. Even the best SL's or grunts read guides like this. Cause maybe, just maybe we will pick up one more trick that we can use in the field.

I want to take some screenshots to make my guides more edible. To this end, I need to be able to drive vehicles and request limited kits. Is there a way to do this alone on a local server? I would prefer not to disturb other peoples' games with my picture safari.

nah.... we would be honored to have to you disturb us .................more.
