It is designated as a Fighter (F-) when it was developed because the US didnt want to piss of the Russians and violate treaty terms. AFAIK, it has no Air to Air Capability unless it drops a bomb on a chopper Gulf War 1 style.

from what i rember technicaly it can fire AA missles and does so by droping them from its bomb bay and then the rocket booster fires whilst in free fall, not sure if its ever been done or the missle even designed for it

Somehow, I can't really see a SL getting on the radio, requesting an F-117, which immediately scrambles from the airport, and then the Nighthawk coming in just above the treetops in broad daylight to drop a few dumb bombs on the insurgent-occupied building, before returning home for a cold Coke.
And even more LOL at the replies in this thread. Quite a few sig-worthy ones.

They've been used in combat quite a bit, one has even been shot down by a SAM!
Not going into PR because:
They are used for planned surgical strikes not CAS.
They fly at high alt in a straight line and drop smart bombs (pr doesn't have those) on something and then fly home, they do nothing else. Not very fun.
There are better planes to put in PR.
