The bonus with having something called MEC is that it's the Middle Eastern Coalition - it doesn't specifically piss on anyone's boots, so nobody can really take offence at it.

Calling a faction after a country could cause all kinds of political bullshit that would threaten the mod.

Let's face it - when a game recently was found to have scenes of fighting and aliens and stuff (cant remember the name of the game) in a cathedral (that looked so damn similar to one in England), the church got so annoyed at it that the publisher ended up having to pull the game from the shelves.

The last thing that the PR mod needs is that kind of adverse attention.
No the other team in BF2142 is the PAC not the MEC. The MEC is the grouping of all the Arab nations in BF2. The PAC IE the (Pan Asian Coalition) is a grouping of China, Russia, Korea, Lous, and last but not least Vietnam. Their weapons are biased on modern Russian equpiment, IE their names hint at what supper power made them.

I like the MEC in BF2 but in PR it's kind of a step away form realsim. Especaly that they use Still in development Russian vehicles. IE the T-90, Tunguska, MI-28 Havok, BTR-90, and the Vodnik. All of witch will not be in front line service for another 4 years.

Of course Egypt is the middle east. You don't have to be part of Asia to be in the middle east.

As for the F16 thing, look it up on BBC, was reading an article about it earlier.

The Shah had intended to Aquire the F16 but was deposed before any arrived.

None of the sources I have seen suggest that Iran has any F16s in its arsenal.

A few F-14s, F-4s and F-5s yes (even fewer actually air worthy, due to lack of spare parts), but no F16s.

They've got some indigiously modfied fighters and some fairly recent Russian aircraft (though not the very latest and I would expect them to be "monkey model" export variants anyway), as well as some they got from Iraq when the Iraqi air force fled to Iran during the Gulf War and the Iranians never gave the planes back.

Iran plans to buy 250 SU-30 from Russia and more of russian AA too (probably some S-300).
I do not think it would be that easy for USrael to liberate their oil.

I would love to see the MEC changed to Iran for the realism and immersion aspect. That said such a change means a lot of work for something that is relatively minor. Too much effort will have to be pulled from gameplay improvements.

Maybe 1.0 can have an Iran.

Cheeseman wrote:Yes, Battlefield 2 is a EA owned game. It was made by DICE, and like many other unacurate decision they made (such as giving the USMC M16A2's in modern day conflicts) they made a fictional Middle Eastern Coalition (MEC) as well. Project Reality is a move towards reality; believe it or not Iran’s history existed long before Canada's or the United States history, you can't "alter" a countries history which has existed longer than most modern day countries of the West. And I thought the whole point of this thread was a "realstic" middle eastren military not something to "alter" to fit our own interests?
You got it all wrong. The concept of "altering history" (or a better way to describe it would be to "write your own history") is something you see in alot of fictional stories actually. As mentioned, look at OFP. Cold War never went hot, but you use the Cold War, and the tensions between the U.S and the Soviet Union to make a story that it did. In effect, you've "altered history" for the purpose of having these two nations fighting each other. ARMA takes it a step further by not only having a fictional conflict, but a fictional island, government, background etc. Similar to controversial existence of the MEC.

Other games do this too. Like the upcoming Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare. Equipment is realistic and such (maybe not the gameplay), but the setting, conflict etc. is all made up. Another game, Fall of Liberty imagines that Winston Churchill was killed when he was hit by a car. The Americans never enter WW2, Germany succeeds in its conquest of Europe. The game then starts out in 1952, where the Germans have begun a new invasion of the United States. Alot of Tom Clancy's work also does the same.

What I'm trying to say is that in order to "write" the MEC's history, background etc. We have to create an "alternate universe" of sorts, where certain aspects of modern day history have changed for the purpose of a more credible story. In doing so, you can almost disregard modern day politics, because it allows you to create fictional characters, fictional events, and in this case, a fictional nation. It's much better than to have the MEC suddenly up and appear in the present.

I dunno about you, but i could turn an 50cal coupla fast enough, not to mention a M240G, both of which are mounted on an M1A2.....Lets test it, shall we?
'[R-CON wrote:GeZe;454617']MEC, contrary to popular belief, stands for Middle Eastern Country.

On each map it could represent a different country.

Them all having the same equipment, vehicles etc. is just because it would take to much work to make each countries equipment different.
QFT. Im almost certain if you read a map discription for a vBF2 map, it will say middle easter coalition.

Iran and all the Islamic countries to the East of Iran wouldn't be part of the MEC. They (the MEC) speak Arabic, they look like Arabs. If anything. The MEC is the Arab countries. The Sunni Alliance. North Africa + Western Middle East

Basically these countries:

North African Arab Countries

* Algeria
* Egypt
* Libya
* Morocco
* Sudan
* Tunisia

Arab Countries

* Lebanon
* Syria
* Jordan
* Iraq
* Saudi Arabia
* Kuwait
* Bahrain
* Qatar
* United Arab Emirates
* Oman
* Yemen

So, to summarise. The MEC compromises of North Africa + Arabic States (Iran and the Muslim states East of them, e.g: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia) don't speak Arabic, don't look Arabic and therefore are unsuitable to be part of the MEC)

Clear Now? Let's just say that the MEC was formed. They crushed Iran because they hate Persians and Shia Islam. Then they swept through Iran and all the Stan countries and that's why the US invaded and started the main war. China is there because they're China.

I like the MEC. Their stuff looks cool, and I have no problems playing as a "different" race or nation.

Did you buy Euro Force or BF2142? In both games, the EU army spoke English. I don't think DICE was trying to imply all Europeans speak English, but it would be pretty hard to run an army where everyone spoke a different language. They just needed a common language, just like the MEC would. Plus, the fact that none of the MEC look Iranian doesn't mean there are no Iranians in that army any more than the fact that none of the American Marines look Hispanic would mean that there was a genocide against Hispanics back in the States. There are only two player models for each team, after all. You can't represent everyone.

According to: http://www.ea.com/official/battlefield/ ... atures.jsp and indeed, the actual DVD case (3rd paragraph from top, titled "Release the power"...

You're wrong. It's the Middle East Coalition.

Mekstizzle:

MEC to my understanding isn't a massive superpower in the sense that the USA or PRC are, but is a comprised of mid-east nations together in a mutually defense treaty; rather like NATO.

In that regard, it's entirely possible that for military reasons Arabic and Persian nations might side together against a common enemy.
