I believe it is one shot if you get all the pellets to hit and you are close enough to have the "distance to minimum damage" modifier not have too much of an effect. Two shots to be sure or one shot to kill them and another when they are down to gloat.

I dont know, ive shot someone directly before and got 1 shot kill, but other times it took 2 shots, unless i misjudged something.

Shot a pesky spec-ops(no body armor)?

I did get one shot kills with the shotgun on OGT, but that's probably because one of the buckshots went in their face

Four shots to kill seems unlikely to me too, must have been some non-vital point. The day before I was training with the Saiga on Op Phoenix, being a loner SL for building purposes. I could kick into the ball at the Construction Site only, when I managed to stalk somebody I unloaded at least three buckshots, then ran to cover.
When I tried a longer one to wound somebody it had about no effect at all. Not realistic at all either.

As was said before, the spread is really bad. The M11-87 might be better if the rate of fire was tweaked though. you can fire a shotgun accurately ALOT faster than that. (Had some fun on the range today with a friend's new 870.)

Does a metre sized spread sound about right at 30-40m?

Shotguns do need a tweak of some kind, especially the pump ones, maybe rate of fire. But the truth is if you made a 12 gauge shotgun actually realistic it would be extremely overpowered because it only spreads about a yard over 50 ft.

By PR standards this is extremely close range, except in urban environments. Most firefights I encounter are at a range of around ~100m, minimum with ones with acogs getting to several times that sometimes.

We should get someone to wear a body armor, get a DEV to watch it, and shoot the guy in the armor about 5 times and see what happens.

Trench brooms are general purpose weapons.

i think they should add iron sights to the shotguns cus it looks retarded when u zoom in with it and the crosshair turns up.

yeah, ironsights would be a nice touch, but today i tried the slug for some longer range shooting and its actually prety good, 5 kills and relatively long range, i should start using that rather than buckshot in close range to.
it must have been funny for the brit i was shooting at, he almost getting killed then getting killed so far away from me with a shotgun.

Shotguns are lethal. Especially the British one.
Just have to use them differently... You aren“t going to be sniping with them.
As for range, I have shot people from the roof on street to the other side. So it does work.

Shotguns tend to lose their effectiveness if the opposition insta-prones when they see you. They present a way smaller target for your buckshot to hit.

Its sad that a knife is much more effective than a shotgun. It you staked someone, and got 2 shot into him, he is able to turn around and kill you, damm, Its worse than Vanilla Bf2!

Teek is right

I do not take engeneer with a shotgun willingly, if Im ordered to destroy somethin or place a mine, I'm doin it then Im begging my team to shoot someone and Im picking up his kit

There is no point shooting the shotgun even if u think u got perfect killing situation, its like "Hey guys, Easy prey here, I wont be even able to kill you, come and get me". It worse then VIP's colt (if anyone played SWAT 4)

If the shotguns are made to have a tighter spread then I suggest using the wrenches cross hair (56) as the zoom sights rather than the standard shotgun one we use now (6) as a place holder for iron sights.
