I've started modeling a new M1114 Up-armored HMMWV as I had promised some time ago. Yes the Polish faction already has a very good looking Humvee modeled, but not a lot of you know that in reality the Polish Humvee is quite different of that used by the United States military. So although it looks freaking amazing, it's not realistic to include it in game as the standard HMMWV for the US Military.

I didn’t want to show work in progress so early in the process, but I started modeling the new HMMWV yesterday and so far it’s coming along very well:

IMHO, the only thing these vehicle mounted heavy machine guns need is further zoom. They should zoom further than scopeless assault rifles/carbines (IE, rifles of engineers). But not as far as riflemen class scopes.

No, it's not realistic. But I think it's the only possible way in BF2 environment to bring these mounted MG closer to their effectiveness in reality.

That, and/or they can widening the bullet whoosh dazzling area of effect exclusively for these mounted MG. That way they can at least have the advantage of easier enemy suppression.

The main problem with .50s is that the view distance doesn't support there range for the most part. (Kashan being one of the maps that does, but all the armor + air units make it worthless) That and players aren't scared of dying due to only having to wait a couple of minutes to get back into the fight.

.7 should hopefully change this though... or .65...

on the hummer- In my personal experience every time I fired the M2 from a Hummer cupola I got lower than what BF2 places the gunner. This is because I actually used the sites instead of going on feel and impact sightings. Another thing to remember is that there are a ton of different version of the hummer, some even with just the vinyl cloth type doors..

on sway- should depend on what stance and if they just got done with a run. Firing standing is fine for close up but the USMC KD (known distance) qualification requires Marines shoot prone unsupported at man sized targets and hit at 500yds. Its possible to reach out and touch someone, just has to be the right situation.

was it 0.4 where you that settling period for some weapons, but there was no way of telling how accurate you would be until you pulled the trigger?
so frustrating
Haha, I remember that well. The UGL was the funniest by far.

......

As has been noted, the lack of weapon sway is a definite part of why gunners aren't scary enough. But this problem can be fixed in a large way if drivers wouldn't freaking stop all the time. Just keep moving, but slow enough to give your gunner a shot. It's so hard to hit a sprint-speed BF2 hitbox it's amazing.
