Is is $80k for ownership or rights the the code? (I'm gonna go ahead and ssume it's rights cos otherwise that'd be ridiculous). Anyway, is there not some way of setting up a BF2 modding organisation/company/whatever that bought the rights? Then all BF2 modders would have access to the source and the costs would be spread, if such a things at all possible.

Sorry to be quoting myself and be on topic and all, but does anyone know if this is possible.

I imagine it might be, but you'd have to scrape up the money and make an offer to EA. No clue what they would say though, and it's really up to them.
