let me just say this , PLEASE do not ruin the game with 1337 mines for gods sake!
also long live the insurgency, give insurgents a 2 minute head start ! (disguised as 2 minute briefing for blufor)
make blufor mine slightly smaller

If mines are to be burried, the engineer kit should see some new changes aswell, aka, mine detector.

Right, because you'll totally have time to get out, sweep for mines and get back into the vehicle without getting shot
I'd advocate engineers getting a 3d marker when within about 20m of mines, as to keep the gameplay interesting while giving the kit a, detection tool like a mine detector

Mines are completely fine the way they are currently, if you're stupid the mines will kill you, if you're smart the mines are denying access from you. And if the enemy team is using an engineer to clear out mines put IEDs on them. You can hide arty IEDs almost completely most of the time anyways so the insurgents have a very good way to kill any armored vehicle.

I like the 3D marker bit.

In insurgency I see most mines accross tarmac roads, with some hidden in the rubbish piles etc provided.. In that case I think it's great that they are visible, to represent a hasty ambush/defence.
On the same maps there tends to be sand though.. In which case why shouldn't you be able to bury them (taking longer in the process).
But PR doesn't discriminate between tarmac and sand unfortunately.

Mines work both ways and I'm sure most of us have experienced both ends

It would be, last time on Fallujah i've got 3xMotobikee strike from Bluefor mines placed in the most visible places on road. So trust me, buried ones would be even more deadly in USMC Enginner hands

.
@ontopic, Good idea imho, specially for maps with "clear" roads.

why not just have the place mine static look like a small pile of rubble, to blend in with the area around it, such as streets of fallujah, then maybe have a second slot that shares ammo, that is covered in grass/dirt? like a forest area such as fools?

Fully buried would be abit fucked, but halfly burried would be much better.

'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino;60371']This would be probaly impossibal to acturly berrie them. you cant just dig a whole its not that simpal. If you could change the hightmaps ingame then EA would have done lots of cool effects like tanks shells would make small crators in the ground ect. the fact is if they had this in the game you would gets lots and lots of that lovley thing we like to call "lag"
Now a way you could do this is make a littel animation, and have the min go 3/4 underneath the hightmap with a little bit of dirt on the little bit thats still sticking out the top. that could work too.
Also is shooting a tank shell at land mines and they blow up realistic or not? i think it really depends on if the mine took a direct hit ect. I dont think a exsplosion next to a min would set them off.
Mother of god.

Who half-buries their mines?
Even 5-year-old kids understand that mines go under the ground. When did half-buried actually start making sense as an option?
In BF2 vanilla, friendlies used to be able to see friendly mines as a floating skull and cross-bones so they could avoid them, so here is a big terrible question: Is there even an inkling that it can be used on enemy mines for combat engies only -- maybe within a 2 meter radius?

"FM 21-16 UXO Procedures" pg 37 of 96, chapter 3
If at all possible, avoiding/bypassing the
UXO hazard is the safest option to take
for personnel and equipment. if the UXO
hazard is left from a recent enemy
attack, you must consider protecting your
personnel and equipment by extracting
them from the area before another attack is targeted on you. See Chapter 5 for
extraction procedures.
If the mission cannot be accomplished due to the presence of the UXO and the
hazard cannot be avoided/bypassed, protective measures must be taken to reduce
the hazard to personnel and equipment.Re
gardless of the option you choose, the
location of the UXO must be clearly marked with UXO markers and the hazard
reported to your next higher headquart
ers. See Chapter 4 for procedures on
reporting a UXO hazard

The game is extremely realistic now. The only thing that takes away from it is the mines standing on top of the road like in vanilla BF2. Having the option to both lay and bury the mine would be great. However, I think having a semi-hidden mine like insurgent IEDs would be the better of the two if we can't get both.
Any information from Devs on this?

Plenty of mines are laid right on top of the ground. Many are even dropped from the air.
Now there's a thought... Carpet bombing with mines!
