As much as I would love PR to be moved to an engine which was more mod friendly, BF2 gives PR a flavor that I don't think any other engine could match. It would just feel different, no matter what engine was used.

PR, as it is, just has the feeling of a classic game that no other mod, on no other engine, can accomplish.

charliegrs wrote:good god so many people are suggesting engines that would look great, but totally neuter the PR experience. say goodbye to real combined arms operations with engines like source. fighting in hallways and alleyways is not what pr is all about, its there, but when you have things like armor, and especially jets and helicopters, the map sizes in games like crysis and counterstrike just wont cut it.
the devs definitly chose the best engine for the job imo, and i think in the future the next best engine is going to be either ofp2 or arma2.
I think the whole point of PR is to have a game that you as a player can have an experence where you can go from a vast open battlefield and go to a closterphobic city and experence urban fighting, while still knowing that you have real people giving you supprot form overhead and on ground.
I mean i get that wierd funny feling every time i ride in a commander truck full of troops just about enter a city with 10 to 15 oter people and fight off the enemy working like team calling in support form tanks.
If PR didnt have any type of urban combat it would end up beaing just anohter crapy mod. I jsut hope that if they do move PR to another game engine i hope they are able to create more complex cites that the player can go in and garrason troops in. it would be like call of duty detal with BF2 assets and and a vast playing field.
But knowing that somting like that would require a beast of a machine and a platoon of extra developers, it will only be just fantasy game.

Blackfoot Studios (Independent studio founded by original Ghost Recon/Rainbow Six developers) licensed the Unreal 3 engine for the upcoming Ground Branch and Sky Gods games. Seems it has the ability to be great for realistic tactical shooters, albeit without a combined arms focus.

Yea right, ArmA is horrible. 99% of the games are Co-op anyway.

i think the frostbite engine from what ive seen of it. it seems visually alright looking and the 90% destructable levels would add a sense of reality unlike anything PR players have played before. never actually played bad company so im not sure if it has planes in it or 64 player servers... but assuming it does i think this is the best choice if we were to pick an engine right now. but then (going with the threads hypothetical theme) if we did choose an engine like frostbite or maybe the bf3 engine then we would have to deal with EA's bs for another 5 years of modding. and i think somehow the devs and the community might wanna keep as far away from EA as they can get when the time comes to choose the next victim of PR

BF2142 engine(modified BF2 engine) is the best bet. You could have alot of amazing stuff on it and still keep the bf2 feel and look.

is say source or U3
as Pr has to be based off another computer game as its a mod..............so until frostbites on PC its a no-go (unless they want to spend a fair bit for it)

i disagree.. one of my best mates at school is the lead dev on one of the last surviving mods for 2142 "urban warfare mod". this small but dedicated team of modders bust there a$$es for very little progress/reward due to having to mod everything inside the battlefield 2 editor and then change alot of lines of code so the texture they have just tweaked or gun the have just reskinned actually works in game. unfortunately the urban warfare mod scene has all but died out, which means little or no support from other mods. also 2142 is relativly the same engine as bf2 (i think, correct me if im wrong)

except for a few changes such as no insta prone or escape pods which means a whole lot of extra work to make a brand new mod when it will look pretty much exactly the same. bad choice of engine especially when there are many more accesible and advanced engines out there. dont mean to tear into ya mark.. just ventin my spleen.

Definiately one which supports AT LEAST 128 ppl on the server

I dont care much for how it looks like, it doesent need to be fancy. Should have good physics, should be greatly moddable, and should basically fit the PR theme (combined arms battles).

Can you lean in Bad company? Will the Frostbite engine support the ability to lean from cover?
