Why not like this?

I just can't ever think of seeing an MTVR with wood, that's all.
Why wood? The current model has it, and you can really put whatever you want on the back :P . In all reality I might change it... you never know :P .

is there any possibility of adding a M249 SAW turret?

Maybe after I get the regular version completed. Who knows... its not like a gun truck would be accepted anyways :P .

And a SAW, SERIOUSLY! What's wrong with a 50 caliber :P .

I decrapified the undercarriage a little bit. Will be improved upon greatly later.

(Forgive the absence of good rendering and 3DS Max, it is currently down for me as I use it only to import the finished file, as such it is sort of a "sketchy" rendering)

ITS (almost) DONE!

Knowing that I will never get this MTVR EXACTLY the way I want it without waiting a year or two, I have decided to finalize my model. It ain't (yes, AINT) perfect, but I believe with a good texture job it will be better than the current USMC truck.

Poly count is gonna' be 6000, if that doesn't pose a problem, 5000 seems a hard for me to reach without ditching the awesome tires (as in inspiring awe).

I plan to go back later and make this truck amazing, and I might do something a little more interesting than this truck *cough* guntruck variant *cough* :P . But for now, this is it. Any suggestions or changes before I send it out to get textured? Constructive criticism is appreciated, I guess :p

Any Dev input, do you think this has high enough quality to make it in the game?

P.S. If the model looks like a complete mess, it probably is :P . I imported it from Autodesk Inventor. I'll try to get someone to clean it up, but what matters is the appearance.

Regards,

just opened it in 3dsmax and it seems like you got some serious issues with your model not being assembled properly, it might just be me, but i do not believe that you should be able to pull a vert and look inside a tire. on paper it looks nice but i think it got some issues.

Nice model :) though I'd add a bit more poly to the wheels. Nothing looks worse than jagged wheels on a vehicle

Any more input on the model? I'm just wondering whether it is worth creating a texture for or not. I was also considering adding an enclosed cargo bay, kind-of like the picture in my first post.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

I think a solid back cargo area, like in the previous subjects would be better, than open wood slates. That's my two cents coming from an aesthetic view point.

With the new Canvas covered truck in .85, you should use a variant that is enclosed.
Its looking nice, and the USI trucks are not that detailed infact. Drop some polys and make each one go further. The rounded corners on the door frames, the round things on the bumper, the round things underneath, the exhaust can all be reduced in detail and should save alot of polys and without sacrificing looks (with a good texture mind you)

Small update. Changed wheels, prepped bed for the canvas covering I will soon add.

4,702 Polygons
6,185 Verticals
100% Pure Ownage*

Tyre tread smoothing groups needs doing, more polys on the spare tyre, back looks like a tipper truck atm, also lets see some shots of the cab....

Overall tho, looks solid. Keep going with it as it will be good. Before you get UVing it is worth getting some blueprints into max(side, above and front) and lining everything up again so it is perfectly proportioned. Its amazing what goes astray during modelling.

-Fixed spare tyre.
-Will add canvas to back it a little while.
-Cab is pretty crappy ATM, I suppose I should fix it :P
-Blueprints fit the model for the most part, some parts are out of place a little, but the only thing I think might need considering is setting the rear wheels back a little bit more.
-Bottom is a little crappy as well

Just wondering, do you think it is an improvement over the USI model? (Besides the fact that it is more realistic.)

In addition, I imported the files from Autodesk Inventor, which might explain some strange things should you encounter any ;) .

P.S. Why did you edit your post and remove the picture of your APC? Just wondering :P .

Isnt the USI truck an M35 while this is a different truck?

Nice truck. Only thing that bugs me is the height of the exhaust stack. In the ref pics it's only as high as the cabs roof. It's also not straight, but i'm sure that would increase the polys too much. Other then that, lookin good, i hope to drive it soon.

Yeah it looks better than USIs, but the cab needs work, remember thats what ppl see close up every time they drive it....

You still need to smooth the tops of the wheels, the steering wheel and column etc, as the smoothing groups make a difference in bf2. Then you need to start removing all the faces you dont want to UV.....

The MTVR is really strange, there seems to be many modified models in existence.

Another pic I saw had the exhaust stack shown.

I can't get the smoothing groups to work for some odd reason, when I set the groups on the wheel all to one there is no visible difference :(
