If this could be done I would vote for it :-P

Better start upgrading guys, the new maps will start your computers on fire :-P

Only those with high end computers are entitled opinions on to what degree their gear gives them an advantage?
^_^ After reviewing what i wrote finally, i realized what i meant to say was "We're not discussing gear" we're discussing how higher end rigs lower their settings to cheat... > > Sorry i'm half asleep XD

Whatever, i still wonder why 'we' are 'exempt.'

NO the discussion* isnt about low end computer players getting a advantage. Its about high end computers running at low settings to get huge FPS, no light maps (everything is light), no grass i.e a advantage.

Why I said low end computers are exempt was because I dont see you guys as cheating, your running as high as you can.

*I know Beafy started with lowend vs highend but there is nothing we can do about that. Not everyone can afford new computers.

If you turn off Shadows, then you lose ability to see dynamic shadows (shadows of soldiers etc.) but at the same time, dark indoor places such as the bottom room on Mestia towers and all indoor places on Fools Road become very bright giving you an advantage as the enemy cannot hide.

My bad fps slows my reaction time and puts me at a great disadvantage. Sure, it's unfair, but so is life. There's nothing you can really do about it, unless you can afford a new pc.

i.e. why I think low end computers should be exempt from this discussion. There is nothing we can do about slow outdated computers. But for those that can run everything high and are only turning it down to low to have the advantage.

Maps like (Korengal and Ramial) will dog a low end computer down so much that it might not get played too much. Fine with me. But when players are tuning down light maps to get an advantage that's where the problem is.

For the sake of fairness this is an issue that really should be addressed.

As was mentioned, you can design everything to look as yummy as possible but if the only way to remain competitive is to play with everything set on minimum then really how ridiculous that becomes.

It'd be a brave dev who decides that to be able to play the game computers must be set with certain predefined graphical settings. Having said that, for the sake of gameplay, fairness and progression of the mod, my opinion is it would be the correct decision to make.

Of course it's easy for me to say that as my computer can handle it presently, but I'll also say I would be willing to upgrade if I needed to...it's that good a game and mustn't be held back for the sake of low end machines.

I feel that way, but a part of me doesnt want some really good community members to leave cause of it....

I know not everyone can afford playing PR at the settings we need...

^_^ But i agree to the extent that it probably won't happen soon, which gives everyone plenty of time to save up XD

Same here and that's why it's a rock and a hard place really.

Does one play it safe and please everyone - those low end machines all the way to the high spec killer powerhouses (which may or may not be played on low settings) or alternatively does one push the boundaries of the engine and enforce the concepts of realistic gameplay, even if that means deciding on what minimum settings players must play on?

I don't know what the healthy answer would be!

For me it would be to push the boundaries of the engine, but mainly because I'm cold and heartless.

Personally if it was possible i would really love to try the idea i had that codredfox enjoyed =D with the different servers for people who can't/dont want to play on the higher settings and force shadows..

sadly, as i said before, don't really know if it can be implemented

I posted a screenshot of my PC on AL Basrash.
ALL Low...100% view.
It was 2,021 FPS.
There was no suppression.
Graphics made me puke.
I could never do it again.

If you have your Lighting option turned to medium, shadows in buildings and static objects still appear. You do NOT need dynamic shadows on for this. Force shadows on? that's a big NO. I'm sure that would take alot of players on low end computers away from the game. I play on medium lighting, and with dynamic lighting and dynamic shadows off. I can play infantry no problem with everything on high, but when it comes to flying (which is basically what I play PR for) I get alot of lag.

The dynamic lighting is not an big issue (only cast by players and vehicles) its the lightmapping on the grounds and statics.
