Go to this path:

C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr

and look in the PR folder for the zip file named 'shaders_client'.

Once the file is located, copy it and go to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\xpack

Open xpack and paste the zip file 'shaders client' in the folder. Restart and see if it solves your problem.

Either that or if your using an ATi graphics card then update to a different Catalyst driver.

Try reinstalling the game and make sure your anti virus program does not delete the contents of the gamespy arcade. To my knowledge this is an old issue most common to Battlefield 2 under Windows Vista + ATi GPU. Sorry I can't be more help, but I no-longer have a machine with an ATi card to personally help you through this myself.

Hi, i have not much time to write/read so i'll read any replys to this when i get back. When i launch my pr shortcut, it goes normal untill it's supposed to show the menu or something... bf2 logo comes, it gets all dark, but then it just returns to the screen... and nothing... no error or anything... i have both downloaded/installed core and level. this is second time i install pr, so i didn't update my stuff... I have ofc tryed with running as admin but no defferents. I have vista 32bit. my bf2 works fine, but i don't play it much. Please reply, thank you.

*EDIT* Last time i played pr, before i uninstalled it, it worked fine.... after fixing the staticmesh.fx... this time, there even ain't an error...

Can you provide your system information?

For the meanwhile Check if your monitor refresh rate is on 60 Hertz.

...ok... i found out u just need to click 'run as admin...' to make the shortcut thing work.... but now i have an other problem O.o when i click 'Deploy' on a map, the screen turns black, and i get kicked back to desktop.... luckly this is an other issue that already has been discussed here... so gimme 5 min and i'll come back with the next issue...

*EDIT* okay, i changed anything to high quality and now it works... :] dunno how normal that is but well... thanks anyway to anyone who helped me (PRT)

I have the same problem. Whenever i click 'Deploy' I get kicked back to desktop. No error message[see edit], just Vista which tries to search for an error but finds none.

When I create a server offline I can load a map. But when it's almost finished I end up with CTD there as well.

Tested solutions so far:
- All settings set to high, no success
- Textures to medium, no success
- Various resolution changes, no success (1024x900 something now)
- Solution with Visual C++ (couldn't update it though, and the last command 'editbin.exe /LARGEADDRESSAWARE BF2.exe' just gave me some error message, could the lack of update be the reason?)BFPirates :: View topic - Vista fix for BF2
- Changing audio settings, no success. https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... -mods.html
-"Fonts" solution, no success. https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... fixed.html
- Deleted profiles folder, and re-retrieved account, no success.
- Run as administrator, no success
- UAC turned off

System specs:
Processsor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9400 @ 2.66GHz
RAM: Corsair Dominator TWIN2X8500C5D 2048MB, DDR2,2x1GB
Graphics card: HIS Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3
Vista 64-bit

Does anyone know what to do?

EDIT: There's actually one error message. It says that "BF2.exe" stopped responding. So it's not just some PR specific problem but a BF2 problem.

EDIT #2: Just found out you can find error msgs in the log files. :)
Here's my error:
Moving 'mods/xpack/shaders_client.zip' to 'mods/xpack/shaders_client.zip-vanilla'... Failed (2).
I guess the shaders that need to get optimized when loading a map for first time or after video changes is the problem here.

delete your player profile folder ("Battlefield 2" in "My Documents").

Retrieve your account, reapply all video, audio and control settings.

Play the game ;)

Are you sure? Cause I just installed it a few days ago, on my new computer. So there shouldn't be any way that there could be something different, if I delete that folder and redo everything. But I'll try it anyway. :P

Oh, at last someone else that have the same. Then we're not alone. ;)

I made a whole new topic about it with even more detailed info. Could you go check it out and see if that's exactly what you have as well?

i recently downloaded pr on a vista 32 home edition computer and before the game even starts it shows a error. i cant even get to the main menu. it says something like failed to load static mesh.fx(5) or something like that. i ran the installer in windows xp combatability mode and as an administrator aswell as the game shortcut. whats wrong?

Edit: i got the exact error message. it gave me this
StaticMesh.fx(2):error X1507 failed to open source file:
'mods/xpack/shaders/datatypes.fx
