How to attract more players?

It's not quantity, it's quality people - never forget that.
Our server is infantry only.. I love it. Whether 4 people are on, or 24 people are on - it's a great laugh.
I have been clanning for years now... started back with Moh:aa - Do you know what I always used to play? MOH CKR (Crow Kings Realism) - This basically changed all the weapons to be more realistic to what they were supposed to be - and changed run speed and nades. It changed the game from being an arcade game, to more of a simulation (to a point)
The same occured with CoD.... and PRMM brings the same things to BF2, just on a much greater level.
I would prefere it if the community doesn't just sell itself short on quality players just to get "numbers" up. Ranks and unlocks will attract the masses.. but the masses are d!ckh3ads who won't play the game as it is intended. I love the fact that no one stat pads on my server - I love the fact that everyone works as a team and, within ZiiP at least and a few of our regulars, no one cares about scores.
EA sold out to the moaning crowds in everyone of it's patches - it ruined the game. PRMM should stick by it's guns and create the realistic sim that it had as it's initial vision. - forget about rank and stuff. This mod will be great for it's own creation... not for copying EAs failed attempts.

I think Flyboy is dead on here. I have had "true blue PRMM guys" get crazy mad at me because I was "new". Elitism is no way to attract new players. I love the realism aspects of this mod. I don't want to see the pursuit of realism ruin this mod though. If the developers decide to make this a combat simulator, then you won't have to worry about new player because there won't be any unless they are current millitary. Simulators are not meant to be played for fun and therefore aren't considered a "game". This mod should not move away from being a game.'[R-PUB wrote:FlyBoy']I think just doing that will greatly increase PR's popularity, its a game not a stress inducer, people should be able to play what they want, using what they want (of course with some logical exceptions, kamikaze, sniper wars etc etc).
- Have servers that play maps that use a variety of vehicles, tanks, apc's, copters, planes etc etc
- Stop telling people "NO TANKS" or some **** like that
- Stop gettting so pissed at new people becuase they are not at first working as a squad
- stop getting mad at SL's becuase they arent doing something the way you would like to be done.
- Stop telling people what they can and cannot do
I think stats are fine for those that want to track their progress, but if that is really true, why display them in your sig? Isn't that what every stat hungry vBF2 player does?
Unlocks based on point/rank progression are pointless in this mod. Make class choices or pickup kits that are class specific. It is unrealistic for an assault class to be able to pick up the AT kit of the opposing force (that the assault guy JUST killed) and use it. BUT if you pick up an advanced weapon or specialty weapon at your spawn point, then that would be more on par.
New players will come if you offer a quality mod that can give you the "real feel" yet maintain the FUN that one should get from a GAME.

well, my idea for a publicty is simple and unoriginal - let's make a movie. 2 or 3 minutes long trailer/teaser/whatever - but not with flashy new models and all this ****, but with small unit tactics seen in a PRMM game. Covering fire, flanking, teamwork, maybe a few very long distance tank duels and a strafing run with a helo shooting a hell of a lot missiles - to show realism and teamplay. This is what is mod is about - and good movie (with a good script and good acting - think Mine) could show that and attract the kind of people we want to be a part of this community.
Or we could fraps how Dedmon owns everybody with Kalashnikov
and that would be a nice movie too
with a soundtrack of Tunak Tunak Tun aka EJOD Victory Dance

i think a teaser with tiny bits of new models would be a good idea.

yeah, sure - but not to concentrate on them, just show them along with other stuff - mostly tactics and teamwork, cause we don't want a flood of bored "vanilla boys" and bunny hoppers looking for new toys, but some people who want to play this mod the way we play it.'[R-PUB wrote:Hitperson']i think a teaser with tiny bits of new models would be a good idea.

The most attractive thing to prospective members is definetely new content. People will download a mod just to get new weapons and vehicles, and new maps are a turn on too. As someone said, the code can't be shown in pictures, you have to play the game to get the feel for the realism, so that's going to be the hard bit to advertise.

So to sum it all up..You only want people that will play the game EXACTLY how you want it played? Like a Dictatorship? That pretty much will eliminate 99% of the people who will download your mod.ETCS_keysR wrote:yeah, sure - but not to concentrate on them, just show them along with other stuff - mostly tactics and teamwork, cause we don't want a flood of bored "vanilla boys" and bunny hoppers looking for new toys, but some people who want to play this mod the way we play it.

Definitely, something like that great EJOD tactics video done in the style of a basic training vid, it'd work as publicity & an intro manual for new players. Show a tactical insertion from the little-bird on the Muttrah City map, with players leapfrogging down the main street & everyone will want to playETCS_keysR wrote:well, my idea for a publicty is simple and unoriginal - let's make a movie. 2 or 3 minutes long trailer/teaser/whatever - but not with flashy new models and all this ****, but with small unit tactics seen in a PRMM game.

I think unlocks will work ONLY if the scoring system is changed to reward the best teamworkers, or even better the best squad. Also a lot of people just want new toys to play with, so adding new armies\weapons as soon as possible is a must. I'd also like to see some changes to how the equipment works, like cooking grenades etc. This will bring new tactics, and attract people who are just bored of vanilla.

I am sorry, I just don't get the whole scoring thing. I played DC like a madman. There was no score except at the end of the round. It didn't carry forward and was not tracked. Before BF2, it was damn hard to find a DC server that was not full. We all played it for the challenge and the fun. Stats attract the wrong crowd INITIALLY. The young bunch that feel they MUST leave their initials at the top of the board in their favorite arcade game are not the folks you want in our servers. Those players are the M203 spammers, the bunny hoppers, the padders and the Rambo style attackers. Leave stats based advancement/gear up/ranking out of this mod and you will have good players that play for the challenge and the fun on your severs. And if you give them the chance to un-learn all the bad habits they picked up in BF2 without berating them at every turn, then they will stick around and be proud members of this community.

Actually everything you mentioned above doesnt happen on good servers..I've got around 15 servers on my favorites list and every one of them is a great place to play because of the Admins. IMO you guys make a big fuss over nothing...ETCS_keysR wrote:only if I could dictate some rulesso you want exploiters, stat whores, bunny hoppers and nooblaunchers who think this game is like Quake, to come and play Project Reality with us, right? Well, I don't.

Wow i just played .25 and it was awful. First of all, no1 plays! There were 3 servers and 6 total ppl when i looked. When i joined the server with ppl in it, most were in tanks and for the first 5 lives or so a tank mowed me down. On top of that the respawn time was 40 seconds....zzzz. Why's that any more "realistic" than 15 seconds? It just makes it incredibly boring. I also couldnt tell at all how much health i had left. Lots of small things bothered me too...like no pistols, parachutes, major falling damage, etc. Guess this just isnt my cup-o-tea

Apparently this isn't your cup of tea (as you said). You must have looked for servers at a bad time, because there are usually more people on at certain times. The long spawn time is to ensure players are careful with their lives. Removing the health bar was to add realism. If you need a medic you will start bleeding, thats all the health information you need to know. The parachutes and no pistols is for realism, so that comes with the territory.matgn03 wrote:Wow i just played .25 and it was awful. First of all, no1 plays!
