Rifleman kills five people.
Rifleman spots assets and planes.
Rifleman ambushes vehicles (light armored ones).
the point is that the SF is the best at 2 and 3, any1 can do 1.
i did not actually say they couldn't, I said SF is DA BEST at it
2) guy gets SF kit, spots enemy positions for SL/commander/aircraft
but this^ is what I said, soflam makes SF more effective at this and can laser for aircraft, officer can also do this, but SF generally doesnt have to worry about the responsibility of keeping 5 other guys alive ingame.

What do you do if your ambushed in a light vehicle? GTFO is what, riflemen will only take down such a vehicle if it gets stuck or they kill the driver, which is unlikely given average vehicle speeds.
Ambushing with non-SF kits is most effective when using a rifleman AT, engineer with whatever ammo provisions you can get combo!

SF on the other hand, place c4 by the side of the road, wait, blow, then GTFO to pre prepared ammo cache (I usually bring a rover with me and hide it in a safe place), if enemy don't send patrol to come get you, rinse and repeat.

But if they are used properly, they can be change the course of the game.

Case in point, a few weeks ago i was on Qwai and got dropped off on the Chinese side of the river. They had a FB up and it was a semi stalemate as to who was going to cap what first. Found enemy firebase and after taking out a few people running round with the silenced pistol knifed it. Put a slam on boxed to be sure and C4'ed the main road taking out an APC heading to fishing.

I agree that far too many people pick it up and charge at the enemy expecting miracles, if you play sneaky sneaky good things happen!

apart from the APC bit , you could of done that with rifleman kit. and it sounds like fire base is main part.

On some maps, actually on quite a few maps, there is no use for the SOFLAM other than dropping a JDAM which should be done by a squad leader poised to strike and not by an SF guy unless he is part of the operation.

Soflam gives 2 zoom levels, which is in my opinion superior to the binocs, allowing a SF to a more versatile view as well as a larger number of places from which to get good views on locations

if spec ops was a base kit like it used to be i could understand wanting to get rid of it. actually thats why its a requestable kit now because back when it was a base kit you would get alot of morons being 1337 with it. but they pretty much solved that problem by making it requestable. i dont see why so many people want it gone, its a good kit that you can be very creative with, and most importantly ITS LIMITED TO 2 KITS PER TEAM even if they are both using the kit the "wrong" way, its still barely affecting the team.

If he had a rifleman kit he probably would not get to that firebase in the first place. Assault rifles arent exactly sneaky.

Also, after a rifleman stabs a firebase, they can just rebuild it. But if a guy with the specops kit puts SLAMs all over the place it will be completely gone.

Tell that to the whole squad that I wacked on bi ming with the silenced pistol. They just never saw it coming, and one of them even ran past me while I was firing at him. :)

In my case, I think it's also simply a mentality change. With the usual scoped rifle, it's run 'n gun: see enemy, take cover, open fire. While playing with the SF kit, I am more likely to hit the ground and report enemy positions to the rest of my team, while trying to avoid direct contact unless it's a really CQ battle, where it's really fun to rip through an entire enemy squad, only to then make a dash for another building, take out a fb, then keep running, etc.

[R-MOD]Jigsaw] I am drunk. I decided to come home early because I can''t realy seea nyithng. I hthknk i madea bad choicce. :|

Well in my case I definitely wouldn´t have done it with a rifle, cos I just wouldn´t have been able to hit them. :p

why do people have such a mentality change when selecting kits though ? why do people need spec ops kit to act 1337 ?

In the PR tournament, maybe. In a pub game? Nope.

Even if he dead guys notifies the rest of his squad, you will probably have 4 SLAMs on the firebase before the rest can get back to hunt you. The supressed pistol is invaluable when trying to blow up a FO. Believe me, when one of those kill you it takes a while to figure out WTF happened.

They dont need it to be "1337". They need it because its more effective at ambushing, blowing up bridges, scouting, sneaking to a FO and generally survivving than pretty much any other kit. I dont know how many times i have stopped 10+ people from crossing the bridge on Fools Road.

Wether you like it or not, the specops kit is actually a very useful kit and its only available for 2 people on the team so i dont see how it affects the team even if its used in the "wrong" way.

like i said before, the only good point about the spec ops kits is that it keeps them kinda people out of my squad.
