Re: Helicopters on Forest Maps
no need for people going über-'nilla in the choppers. lets concentrate on the armor-ambush aspects that makes these maps so great. you dont have to get airborne in every map.Alex6714 wrote:You mean if your team doesn´t use air defenses wisely?
Thats the beauty, teamwork on both sides rather than just spam on one side.

Re: Helicopters on Forest Maps
None of these maps are fit for choppers as they are all to small and concentrated.
Kozelsk = 2km map, where most of the map is a lake
Mestia = 1km map are not fit for attack helicopters.
Fools Road = 2km map that is probably the most fit, but would need to have an increased asset count, which could take away from the maps feeling.

Again, these maps were only for an example due to the heavy treeline and temperate environment.

Re: Helicopters on Forest Maps
I heard Spacemanc was making a rather big forest map.. Not sure if it was going to have many helicopters tho.
However, IMO a hind on Fools Road and Kozelsk would spice up the map even more. I don't think it will be unbalanced, neither that it will be useless ; the Hind will be good for quick troop insertions and firesupport. Altho on Kozelsk I'd give a Hind to the chechnyans rather than the RF.
Overall I support the suggestion.

It's not a suggestion, it's a discussion about whether or not helicopters on heavily wooded maps would be a good idea.Tannhauser wrote:I heard Spacemanc was making a rather big forest map.. Not sure if it was going to have many helicopters tho.

Re: Helicopters on Forest Maps
I don´t know if many of you know, but each map can have at least 3, maybe 4 variations of it in one gamemode.
So that means you can have an all out one with helis, if you don´t like it there can also be an only armour/ground one, and you don´t like that there can be only infantry.

I think The Hind-35 from BFSF would fit better for russians.

Has anybody else noticed that nobody likes that map? Everytime it comes on rotation, you can see everybody typing in chat, CHANGE MAP!!!!
The work and effort that went into it is great, but its just not a favorite.
But in addition, the chechnians are screwed as it is, and u want to give the Russians an attack helo?! Then everybody will leave the server.
I also cant imagine an attack helo in places like seven gates and the likes. I think its great as it is now and for reasons the devs have thought of carefully.
Speak for yourself. The Russian maps have no problem filling a server. Myself it's my favorite rotation, you'll see me disconnect if a Chinese map loads, but never from a Russian one.
White Rock wrote:You mean the RUSSIANS are fucked if chechenya blows the bridge and then watches the coastline for incoming apcs. Attack helicopter if we could add some AAA guns for the Chechnya's. That + sa7 would make it an interesting approach.
And you dont need militia like forces to have forest maps.. Consider MEC vs Britain with a dense forest: No tanks, apcs and copters for attack and apc ambushes.
Ooh, there's an idea. If not attack copters, what about a transport scout heli for Russians?
You're missing the fact that Russians have no bleed. In theory the Russians don't need to cap the first flag to win.
ralfidude wrote:Really guys? I was playing that map in three different servers, and everytime it went on, everybody started asking the admin to change the map. Not making this up, lol. Hey, i mean its ok, its not my favorite, but iv played two interesting rounds as chechnians, cuz everybody runs to the russian side.
Problem is that on chechnians, the SLs are not thinking at all. Its always me and some other brave squad leader keeping the first flag defended against 2 tanks, and incoming APCs, im just tired of doing that. But thats offtopic.
Still, dunno if its such a hot topic for a hind there.
You're bound to have a bitchy few who will complain but you don't see them disconnecting. Rather on the contrary, despite the critics, I've seen the Russian maps breathe life into some of the more unpopular servers. Now if someone only had the right idea to create a 100% Russian rotation.

No offense but you are playing the map wrong.
And I would not begin to suggest that ''others squad leaders are not thinking". In fact, they are clearly thinking and your method of game play is wrong. Take what I write as a critique.
Tank = 10/15 tickets. How many times has your squad died (from the tank itself and nearby infantry) in order to take it out? The RPG-7 is a piece of junk against a T-90, no doubt your entire squad has died 3-5 times.
By engaging the tank (and even if you destroy it), you're nevertheless causing your team tickets and there are less men on the flag's radius, making it easier for Russia to cap it.
And no where is it written that we must engage armor. This is playing Kolesek wrong and ignoring the terrain advantage. There are thousands of depressions throughout the map, countless trees, rocks and hills -- I've had T-90's / BTR's roll within 5 feet me and never saw me.
Keep your efforts focused against Russian light vehicles (BDRMs and Supply Trucks) and infantry. Using terrain as conceal will negate the usefulness of Russian armor. And Chechnya is superior to Russia in small arms (while myself I like the Ak-74 very much. In some situations, the AKS-74U and PPSH are far superior, particularly in forest and hill ambushes).
And don't forget about flanking maneuver. It's all about flanking and ambushes. One man with a grenade can take out 6, and a full AR clip can take out 3-4 if attacking point blank from behind. Keep your squad mates 10-20 meters apart and everything should work out perfectly

Not going to happen. Forests make up less than 5% of the Middle East. And the only dense forests are rather small and strategically unimportant. The most prominent forest in the Middle East is located in Northern Iran, on the Caspian Sea, and strategically there's no reason for a battle to occur there (unless Russia did an amphibious through the Caspian sea. Which would be likely if we get Russia versus. MEC, given that I don't think Russia will be invading the CIS. )
An attack chopper will balance Fools in my opinion. A transport helicopter wouldn't do a whole lot on Mestiza. The radius on Mestiza is so huge and within walking distance, and a scout chopper will only make the map impossible for Russia, as noobs will be crashing them into trees and/or getting shot down by Ak-47s; 10 tickets per each.Ooh, there's an idea. If not attack copters, what about a transport scout heli for Russians?
And there's a balance issue at the moment on Kolesek that makes it real hard for the Militia to fall back to the next flag, adding a transport helicopter will only allow the Russians to cap flags faster, while the nearest militia squad is more than a kilometer away on foot.
