The way I see it, I just can't see the former soviet republics making an alliance. Which side would they be taking? Where would their money come from? The middle-east holds alot of oil, and alot of western intervention has been going on in that part of the globe. If you try hard enough you could make sense out of the MEC. However the Soviet Union disbanded themselves, I can't see why they would want to bring it back.

Remember this is still BF2, BF2 is a game thus you are able to bend reality a bit and even PR cannot go near full realisum.
China and the MEC are enemys who have superior equipment and professionalism that suppasses thies dam weak insurgents that everyone wants. How much fun is playing as an insurgent with five bullets in his cheaply made AK-47 and an RPG that he cant afford ammunition for.

Looking at the reality in Iraq, the insurgents does not exactly look like they are running out of ammo or explosives any time soon

From what I see on the servers, people prefer to play maps that are very heavy on infantry and very light on armor and aircrafts. I figure that insurgents would fit well into the setup that is the most played on the servers...At least the european ones.

And BTW, pan-arabism died a looooong time ago, so the MEC is probably the most unrealistic part of this mod at the moment!

I kinda like the idea of insurgents. I played some BF:SF the other nite, single-player for fun, and playing as the insurgent team was super-fun. They look so much cooler and it gave things a more realistic look. The RPG guys even have a bag full of extra grenades on their back. That is way awesome.

Well if that is so, they can go play COD or AA.

Ok.. I agree that vehicals deserve limitations but not to an extent were they are none existant.

Your taking my isurgent idea the wrong way. If the mod was purely about U.S forces against Insurgents in Iraq, I would probably not be as interested. However I'm suggesting that in part with the storyline, the MEC's influence could spread within the former soviet republics. These insurgents would receive equipment, cash and supplies from the MEC.

The insurgency type maps would make an excellent way to start off with some Spec Ops only maps. Basically the threat of having Islamic culture dominant in Eastern Europe becomes a problem with the rise of the MEC. The former Soviet Republics, too poor to deal with the movement call upon western superpowers for assistance in suppressing the rebellion. This could make sense of some of BF2's expansions. For instance with Special Forces you have an insurgent type army as well as British SAS, Spetnaz and SEALs. With EF it tells us that Russia joins EU which allows the European Union to mobilize in Russia and advance into China from the north.

The insurgents don't really have to be all that bad as well. Eastern Europe is probably one of the places the black market thrives in right now. Ever seen Lord of War? The gunrunner from Ukraine that dealed in everything from firearms to helicopters.

I've seen pictures of the militias of local warlords in Afghanistan having access to T-62's. I would not call a T-62 a light vehicle, so militia style insurgent groups could actually have access to heavier vehicles, but maybe not T-90's

I see your point Pence, with the stupidity of completely removing heavy or, for that sake, light vehicles. I've just noticed that this mod actually plays pretty well when the servers remove all the heavy vehicles.

Now, back to topic. If the MEC would make a strategic move out of the middle eastern countries, I do not think they would go for Kazakstan. Depending on the relationship with Russia, it would be more likely for them to hit Azerbaijan to put even more pressure on the oil supplies, that western countries does not have to much of. Also, Azarbaijan is neighboring Iran, making it easier to hit fast and hard, while Kazakstan would be a rugged ride through the deserts of Turkmenistan and/or Uzbekistan....

Another thing to think of is, that the main reason why Kazakstan made it into the discussion was the possibility of some more interessting terrain. I think we can find more interesting terrain than desert in northern Iraq, or even in eastern Turkey. We just need to find a good reason why anybody would bother with the MEC being there. As far as I know, eastern Turkey isn't very ressource rich for example.

BTW, would Turkey stay a NATO country or join the MEC?

EDIT: Ohhh, and on a quick note, why not drop the official BF2 storyline which shows that the guys at DICE and EA is good at selling games, but totally lame in international politics and history!

I think this is actuly a good question, Turkey relies on tourisum but then again so does Egypt. I think Turkey would be devided, the none islamics would be kicked out and a new totaly Islamic ragime would rise to power and then become a MEC state.

Maybe Turkey would actually be split in a civil war with the Kurds going for where Kurdistan is headed in the MEC, and the rest of eastern Turkey trying to join the MEC. Meanwhile the more european oriented western Turkey might stay in NATO.
