I bought Arma, and I couldn't get into it. The controls are too complex and the graphics are....yeah. I'm still going to buy Arma2 when it comes out and give that a go, hopefully it'll be better.

For those mentioning arma demo, u are a part of a group that is a bit off.

The demo differs from the main game.

The amount of modification power for arma far exceeds PR, and it has some excellent based teamwork when it comes to playing online with a good team like TG. Comms are kept clear, and real military tactics are present.

Reality is a miss for arma though, lots of bad things with it, but you cant tell me the controls are hard, what do you guys mean they are too complex?

The controls for arma are what killed it for me. too much press the button twice for this option, or tap this button on the other side of the keyboard. I don't know if they had a 8 handed person designed the controls or what.

I really dont know what you would want in place of that. There were just alot of options for the gameplay that made it better. It allowed modders to come up with a mod for ARMA that if a guy is hit u can revive him, but instead of medding him in the middle of a firefight u have options to drag his body behind cover then reviving him, etc. Or while in flight you can switch for AG or AA modes, etc.

Those are all good things.

But if you were in a fight you didnt have to worry about anything. controlls were the same as playing PR.

All the different options are located when you go up to a certain object or what not and scroll with ur middle mouse button. Nothing complex about that.

It just takes a little getting used to. New players will always be overwhelmed, but it took me a week after i got it all down.

In contrast, it took me over a week and a half to two weeks just to get the gist right for PR as a transition from BF2.

Humm...Both are very unique.

Arma is almost a "freelance" combat "sim", you can setup own missions, you and all vehicles have inventory, fuel, freelook etc. etc. ...many variables like sun, illumination, ballistics (maybe wind too, not sure), HDR... Very addictive with all those features.
The downs are: It has bugs (getting fixed tho), the gameplay is not smooth, you have to stop to do cerain things, movement is weird at some points, pretty much all vehicles have **** psyhics... And you get bored by it because there is absolutely no cooperation on MP. You complain about being your SM 200m away from you in PR, you have people 15km away...

PR on the other side is not so advanced but alot smoother play, better psyhics and harder..and better and stronger :D

Lol, agreed with nizzle.

But arma is not getting fixed anymore though. They are done with it.

But MP gameplay has ALOT of cooperation lately if you go to the right server, like TG.
We get a whole strike force together, with a supply line in the back to get ammo, fuel, and repairs to all those vehicles. Its VERY effective.

Thats one thing PR lacks, but im happy that it does, due to the small maps. If a vehicle is down, it will not spawn back, you have to go with a repair truck and a refuel truck to fix it where it went down.

but are you fighting real people or AIs?

i have only played ArmA against AIs, i am pretty sure (when the game was actually playable, that is...i played it a few years ago and it was laggy as hell and horrible).

i also used an old trackball with no mousewheel so the controls were basically unusable. overall, i thought ArmA sucked really badly, and PR has gotten 100% better since then so it's a no brainer for me. PR > ArmA by a factor of 10.

ArmA is more realistic of the two, better engine, but it absolutely only comes together properly if you're on the right server. I basically only play ArmA when the TG servers are up.

Yup, we play against AI with the AI skill set to the maximum, so its a worthy opponent.

But there are the servers against each other.

There is a server running RPG mod, so that its a city with people playing cops and robbers and civilians.

You obey by the rules and do your best.

ITS SO MUCH FUN.

there is a ridicolous amount of potential.
