Will people using the PR edition be able to connect to other servers? I'm fairly sure TG is going to set up its own mumble server sooner or later.

If you stick close together with the vehicles sure. But as soon as you spread out to flank or cover different angles your screwed. Or when one tank is down and the other crew has just picked up a tank from main and you are pinned or on your way. And you will still hurt the transport chopper/transport apc squads. Usually they request for a marker for the destination and tell each other stuff about AA and AT positions.
I agree with the multiple units using directing and teamworking the asset as stated before. And thats my official standpoint about mumble. Mumble is for inter-unit chatting. Not in-squad. If you got a blue APC standing by, walk up to it, ask firesupport or taxi lift and get in. (for example)

Most clans/communities have TS servers anyway, so they'll just use that as a substitute for BF2 voip if its disabled. It'll just punish the more casual PR players.
Its not like Mumble is that realistic a simulation of the human voice anway, it goes through walls as if they aren't there, and vehicles for that matter, limiting opporunities for quiet conversation.
Further, vehicles which would be able to communicate via radio communication IRL would be unable to do so in PR. Even if they are close enough to use mumble, vehicle crews' comms shouldn't be overheard by people outside the vehicle.

'[R-DEV wrote:Jaymz;997964'][R-GOD]TwistedHelix is working on "Mumble (PR Edition)" to solve a lot of comm problems we see today. If things work out as planned,
1. you'll have an option to install it with future updates (option given at the end of the PR installation/patch)
2. All you'll have to do is run the audio wizard and set your key bindings. (distance settings, link-to-game, etc will all be done for you and hardcoded to prevent cheating).
The template will be,
player to player direct talking - Mumble (3D positional)
SL to SL radio - Mumble (force center)
Inner-squad radio - BF2 VoIP
Wait, does that mean there'll be auto-channel switching depending on the server you join?

And which team you're on? And would it be possible to make it so that the push-to-talk key is inoperable when you're typing, so you can have it bound to a letter key?

The status is : We have the client version 99% done. We're finding out if we can make our own "PR murmur" server files.
Charity Case wrote:Will people using the PR edition be able to connect to other servers? I'm fairly sure TG is going to set up its own mumble server sooner or later.
Normal murmur servers don't care what version you have. We'll also make the PR murmur server files available for anyone.

If you are going to attack the enemy, would would be close and whispering. the enemy shouldnt hear you if they are decently far enough away and your squad mates are close enough to hear you.

Hand signal emulated by moving your upper torso in certain prearranged ways? Imagine if someone doesn't get the point, you do it over and over and you take your eyes off that target and BAM you're dead, they're dead, everyone is dead cause they're making moves with their guns and NOT pointing them where they're meant to be.
Also, typed chat for hand signals. Not correct as well since hand signals are almost all done with ONE hand and usually thats the hand NOT on the trigger because if it comes down to it you can shoot with one hand but it also means you can bring your rifle back to proper stance faster since the weight of the rifle is resting in your trigger hand.
Seriously. The fact is that the average PR squad has about 1% of the effective communication overall that any real life one does means you need some kind of super system to recreate it and even then most squads lack real coordination.
Mumble is the best of the worst ideas. Its like Churchill said. [paraphrase]Democracy is the worst way to run a country, except for all the other ones[/paraphrase]

Well i was thinking, you can agree on hand signals in Squadchat. F.ex.
Just typing L.
Could mean, enemy spotted.
Typing S.
Would mean Stop.
Thats what they do in real life, they agree on signals. And then they act upon it, not that everyone gets it right the first time
But it would be a simpler solution than to type everything down to the smallest detail in Squad chat.
I mean, who knows what A stands for in the Nato Alphabet, its not so hard to have a code language, where each letter stands for something in PR.
Im just saying, but then you need to tell that to the squad first.

Chances are, even if you do include all this mumble stuff, a LOT of people just wont use it at all. They will stick with BF2 VoIP.
@ "mumble limitations"
Can you be serious?
You are esentially claiming BF2 VoIP is more realistic than mumble?!?!?!?
WTF?!
jonny i agree with you a LOT of ppl dont like and dont want use mumble what if that guys who dont like mumble join in server who all players there talking with mumble:more black hole squads (no mumble)

People use VOIP so I don't see why they won't use mummble. If it is there people shall use it!

Johny I did read your reply. All of it. I guess I didnt understand what you meant since you didnt elaborate as clearly as you are doing now. How do you want to code it so that Mumble knows your in a vehicle and thus have a radio and thus are relieved of the distance feature?
And chances are that people wont use it? If they are on mumble automaticly I think it will be used. Not at first but as soon as a few of them "non-believers" got mumbled on by a few believers they will use it. At least if it gets used the way I think it should be used. Inter-unit communication. It will be a big relief for me knowing that I can at least talk to the blue thing. In the current set up its a wild guess and crossing your fingers if the blue guy is on mumble. I agree with coxy52k on this one.
And I hope your not directing that mumble limitations bit towards me? Because than you didnt read all my posts in here very well.

Can we animate hand moves?
like stop, go go. Enemy spotted.
Then link the animations to the commo rose, with the respective typed meaning?
If thats possible, then problem solved:
No more spamming with the commo rose.
And silent squadleading, in the sense that you have contacts nearby.
Also, the hand signal can be put on the squad chat screen to, just to make sure everyone got it.
