IMO PR needs integrated Mumble to effectively use all the teams assets together.
We all see lots of silly behavoir: 3 Tanks on Kashan with no AA cover - 5 minute life expectancy, squads not co ordinating atall etc etc.
PR is beyond reproach at the squad level, VOIP, must join squad, must follow orders.
But to be so much better IMO it needs more coordination between squad, armour and air.
The moment Mumble is integrated and works well I will be a happy chap.
Too often at the start everyone rushes off to do there own squad thing and with this bloody squad bug and the screen filled with the spawn screen it is nearly imposible to arrange things before everyone charges off like headless chickens.
Of course with the CO 'problems' we are unlikely to find many devoted CO's let alone poeple listening to them.
My best example as CO in Kashan I see all three tanks together trying to assault North Bunkers alone:
Me CO: Hello tank squad have you got AA cover or suppport?
Tank Squad: No (with pissed off tone of voice)
Me CO: Well you won't be around long then.
Tank squad: No reply
Inevitably no tanks five minutes later
I am not super intelligent or ex military but to me this seems totally obvious but apparently not one of these six guys thought about a logistics trucks with an AA guy on board which IMO is the bare minimum a tank squad should have on Kashan.
PR will always be affected by us, the public - with a haste to engage the enemy, the rush to grab your favourite asset or kits, players seem to lack a bit of patience.
I never take the first heli, I want to check they can fly and to use that time to sort out the squad and to see what eveyone else is doing first.
What I am trying to say in a very long winded way is that no matter what we can do with a game, VBF, PR, CA or ARMA it will always be us the players that dictate how the game will play out.
In VBF you could have great CO coordinated team work, arty on objective, UAV cover, supplies dropped nearby and multiple squads attacking the same objective but it NEVER happens because the majority of gamers seem to want to run about a bit like headless chickens in relation to the team as a whole.
I used to play on very good VBF Karkand IO server which genarally has good players on it, but there it is depressing to see ALL the players running to attack one flag then having to return to the previous flag to retake it, the whole game consisted of all squads running form one flag attack to another it was like wtaching a pinball machine as CO.
Are a large amount of gamers egotistical, or do alot of people want to just relax after RL stresses with arcadesque gameplay?
The DEVs try to counter this nature with VOIP and being kicked for lone wolfing and now with Mumble being pushed heavily and hopefully integrated one day.
I guess the final question is:
How much teamwork and coordination can we expect from the average gameplayer with all the different ages, nationalities, characters and personalities involved?
