Hey guys who are having the error message with pr.exe:
Have you tried the tip located on the first page by TwistedHelix (pointed to me)? You basically have to change one thing from the system registry because (my) BF2 is stupid and had the default path for it on E:\ drive instead of D:\ where I have my own BF2 and it kept crashing.
Heres the original quote:
Brilliant!
So first thing ... go to START>>RUN
and type in "regedit" <enter>
Then in your registry go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2 ,
Or it might be something like that ....
Look for the key that says InstallDir ... and tell me what it says ?
It said E:\Pelit\BF2\ (for no obvious reason, never installed it on that disk) so I changed that back to D:\.
Now BF2 starts when running the pr.exe but I fixed it by adding +modPath mods/pr and voila.
Thank you very much This will be a 99% sure solution for the rest of us who have the same problem
Mods or OP, can you paste these answers to the first post so people with the same issue can solve it
Thanks once more Twisted

HMNGER,,,, i had the same problem, i even blamed one of the devs when in reality it was the devs at EA
if you are getting LOC_error, i dont know if you are this is what you gotta do
DONT RUN BF2 THROUGH A NETWORK,,, i had my shit saved so it accessed it through the network instead of directly,, after i switched that path, LOC_error was gone and so was pr.exe
hope this helps

Everything looks fine in my registry...
Name: InstallDir
Type: REG_SZ
Data: G:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2
The mystery continues...
I shall now attempt a full re-installation of everything.

I'm having an different issue about PR.exe (0.86)
it doesn't start by any means. I tried the solution on the first post, but it didn't worked.
i double-click the shortcut and goes idle. looks like I didn't do anything.
details: no error message, no CTD, no BSOD, no splash screen, nothing at all, totally idle.

I'm using a Athlon X2 4200+, Win XP SP3, 9600GT 512MB, 2GB RAM, 19" widescreen monitor. Reinstalled BF2/1.41 patch/PR Core & Levels 0.86 an hour ago and rebooted. vBF2 works OK.
some screenshots:
PR 0.86 is installed.

Error message when I try to start PR from BF2 (like above)

Can someone help?
thanks in advance.

Hawk , it looks like you do not have .NET installed correctly on your machine.

Hoak you have never actually given an error message or said whats wrong ... other than "it doesn't work". The fact that you then spend 5 times that amount of text answering perceived slights and attempting to enter a flame war, pretty much sums you up.
I guess we better leave it at that then. Enjoy Arma 2. PR will still be here when you fancy installing .NET on your machine properly.
A hint. Next time you want help, try to be a little more polite and you might get it. As this is a sticky thread and is for helping people who genuinely want some help ... I am going to remove your unnecessary spam.

I also cannot start PR. When I click on my desktop icon of PR860, I get a window that opens and says: "pr.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I could previously run PR version 856, without any problems, but as soon as I downloaded and installed the patch, the previous message would pop up. I have also attempted to remove PR 856 and then load the full install of 860, with levels with the same error message as above."
I went back and installed 856 with levels and I had no problem opening and playing the game.
I am running Windows XP with current updates. Any help would be appreciated.

If you launch in windowed mode you will get an error read out with the message that tells you that pr.exe cannot start. Copy that error message here please.

I'm getting this problem, I'm on XP SP2, using retail BF2 dvd.
I have installed once, got the error, tried the fixes, uninstalled and then I did this:
Started PC.
Installed BF.
Rebooted.
Installed BF 1.41 patch, filename: BF2_Patch_1.41.exe
Installed Core files, filename: pr_0860_core_setup.exe
Installed Level files, filename: pr_0860_levels_setup.exe
Rebooted.
then when I try and run the shortcut, I get this error:
EventType : clr20r3 P1 : pr.exe P2 : 0.0.0.0 P3 : 4a066ac7
P4 : mscorlib P5 : 2.0.0.0 P6 : 4889dc80 P7 : 343f P8 : 119
P9 : system.io.directorynotfound
I've looked in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software and there's no EA Games or electronic arts stuff, I've looked in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/ and there's Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2 and InstallDir is set to C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2
My shortcut is this:
Target: "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen +szx 1440 +szy 900
Start In: "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2"
Run: Normal window
BF2 is installed to: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2
BF2's exe is: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe
PR installed to: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr
PR's exe: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe
Running pr.exe direct still causes the error.
"EventType : clr20r3 P1 : pr.exe P2 : 0.0.0.0 P3 : 4a066ac7
P4 : mscorlib P5 : 2.0.0.0 P6 : 4889dc80 P7 : 343f P8 : 119
P9 : system.io.directorynotfound"
I'm guessing that the install files aren't corrupt as they installed perfectly without glitch or error.
I really do want to get this working as I've been wanting a decent upgraded BF2 game for ages.. I even read the whole manual!
Let me know of anything else you can do to help me get this working!
If it helps diagnose things, I also have vstudio 05 installed for work and the .net 3.5 framework was insalled on my first installation.
Look forward to hearing how to fix this!
Regards,
Adam

Ah, it's not working I THINK.. I started BF2 and it must have created the profile directory.. which must have been what couldn't be found..

Hello like the thread says Im having a pr.exe problem:"pr.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.". The thing is after I made the first instalation of this mod it worked without any issues. The problems started after I made a system recovery. I fallowed all previouse advises checked the regs, my .net, changed the lines in the shortcut nothing helped, finaly I deleted the whole BF2, profiles, .net, regs everything...and instaled it again from my CD applyed the full 1.41 patch instaled the PR core, lvl's, and the patch... The error still continius to pop up

PS. Sorry for my bad english

I finally was able to get my game to work. I was getting the "pr.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." screen after clicking on the updated PR .860 icon.
My solution:
I run Windows XP, so I made sure that I had the most current updates (which includes making sure that .net is updated to 3.5 SP 1).
Made sure that in the registry, the program is in the right place. In my case, my game is located on a second hard drive, Drive E. The registry initially had everything correct, except that the string was:
E\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2
I changed it to E:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2
The program would then load to the opening game screen, but then would shut off and go back to my desk top. I solved this by making sure that the string in the target box of the properties window of the PR desktop icon was set correctly to include the right settings for my screen resolution.
Now I am ready to rock. Thanks to all you gave previous posts to guide me through this...see you on the battlefield!

Yes this is correct. The program assumes your profiles are already there , so if you actually do a clean install first, then you should launch vanilla BF2 and recover your profiles through that first. Then run PR. Despite being an exe its still a MOD and needs BF2 up and functioning properly before it will work.
And yes Doclmb, the incorrect registry entries also cause that error (because then it cant find the BF2.exe directory). This will be fixed next release, as we will create a project reality registry entry on install rather than relying on picking up the BF2 one.

Ok I'v solved my porblem

Despite the fact i fallowed all the solutions I still had problems with running PR, so If u made a clean install including regs, profiles, net 3,5, etc. And the PR is still not starting (u get the PR.exe stoped working message) try to go to the .NET directory (default C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework)run the setup and make a repair/fix (dunno how its written coz Im using polish OS). It worked by me, dont know why coz I made a new instalation of the .net, but after the fixing it worked and now I can play

.
My problem.

Greetings,
Recently i have downloaded the core and levels of the PR-mod.
When i installed both of em, and tried to run the Pr.exe, the following error occured:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe
This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.
^ive tried reinstalling the core, over a dozen times.
And ive also been sniffing around this forum for this error, but i seem to be the only one here. Ive changed the Target: and Start In:, as mentioned in this post before, but none have helped. Hope you can help me with this problem.
Kind regards,
Wizard
