When I 'Toggle Deafen Self' it automatically mutes the mic.
But when I undeafen myself the mic stays muted.
Is this on purpose?
Usually, when you mute your speakers this also means that you are AFK or dont want to use mumble atm.
So it mutes your mic.
Imagine someone talking all time and you tell him to shut up but he keeps talking... Simply cuz he can't hear you. Makes no sense, does it?
When you un-deafen yourself, well, you un-deafen yourself, nothing more. If you want back into game, you just press "un-mute" and deafening and muting will be gone.
This system makes a lot of sense to me and is nothing you will have trouble with.

Thanks for bringing mumble back in. We don't need the PR version and the PR server, but it makes things hell lot easier for everybody, so I guess its good eh?
Thank you a lot, I'm lookin forward to the friday's events... Hell yea.
Screw TS, we got mumblin' going on.

Other silly questions:
How do I know which team/side is mine?
I am playing with Mumble at UKWF; all players who have confirmed my signal -thx- are in the waiting room with no one on each team, are they just using the positional function and not bothering with SL channel?
Does the positional work whilst in waiting room and is it side locked automatically?
I popped into the RR servers and lots of battle related chats, I know to wait until in game to only hear people in the proximity correctly, whereas I hear everyone while not in game?
I use a portable to play and TS gave me enormous problems with an on board sound card but no such issues with Mumble!
Thanks for your help chaps I willl try ingame tomorrow.

SL side 1 what defines this well you all in mumble and you can see who the squad leaders are on your side so you all go in the same channel. Im sure that on insurgancy the regular army is side 1. squad lead channel is so squad leaders can talk to each other wherever they are on the map using a set shortcut used to be called force centre. Using a diffrent Push to talk key for local or positional chat no matter what team/side or channel you are in once in game you can talk to every one in your local area. Good for talking to medics not in your squad when you need health or transport drivers when you jump into the transport or when an enemy is behind a wall you can give him some banter(abuse) before you kill him.
I like the locked PR version of mumble cuts down on the posibility of players thinking its clever to increas the distance they can hear the chat and use it to find the enemy, totaly lame way of playing and the hole point of PR is team work and tactics not lamer abuse of mumble and BF2 hacks.
Is the PR version of mumble locked so the PR client version can only connect to PR servers as set in the channel lists or can diff versions of mumble client still connect to the PR server.
Awsome bit of kit thanks PR Devs.

OK cool Shavid from UKWF helped a few of us out thanks alot mate.
Well you have to set up the Squad Leader channel manually Configuration - settings - shortcuts - add - Double left click on unassigned - left click drop down arrow by assigned ' select Squad leader radio - choose shortcut
You have to work out which channel your teammates are in yourself by checking ingame, if empty pick your side and others will follow.
Don't use Squad Leader Chat shortcut (Force center technical name) unless you are squad leader (everyone in your team can hear you) and when using SL channel use some radio chat such as: squad leader one to squad leader 2 over kind a thing.
My Observations:
Quality is incredible
Seems quicker then TS and VOIP ingame
Perfection would be:
SL Channel shortcut already in from PR download
All SLs automatically placed in SL channel on correct side
Other SMs automatically in correct channel for their side
I see big cheating possible without lots of work for admins - yes PR isn't VBF but nonetheless....

What Orford positional audio isn't side locked?
So all team 1 and Team 2 can hear each other in Positional (I read about the linear graph on distance/volume levels)
I didn't know that are you sure?????
Yes been confirmed by ever helpful Shavid.....shit that will be bizarre - I'll have to shut up then!

yes thats one of the good points both sides can hear each other. Thats why the squad leaders have seperate channles so team 1 cannot hear what the other team is plotting with there squads. SO if 2 squads are attacking one north one east as a squad member you dont want to shout to a member of the other squad 2 enemy behind you as the enemy will hear. you take it up the command line you tell your squad leader in your squad voip he tells the other squad leader who then tells his squad carfull on the left etc etc. good disapline and good squad work. before you say it he should have the rear coverd any way. some times dosnt work like that but whos perfect.
squads have voip to talk in squad. and mumble to WHOEVER is nearby by be it friend of foe.

Tactical Gamer run 2 mumble channels, 1 for each team.
tbh its a superior arrangement for AAS games, more relaxed, more practical.
in insurgency it means you can't tell the Americans not to shoot civilians...but hey.
In the future I hope Mumble can incorporate the best of both worlds.

I don't feel good when the enemy can hear me.
PR is about having fun with lots of teamwork and realistic elements. VOIP does NOT have to be one of them. If I know enemy hears me, I take the 1.5 sec delay and talk on VOIP.
2 Channels for 2 Teams makes it a lot easier, relaxed, as you say.
Talking not to shoot civis, what the fvck, we have the raise-hands now, so who cares?
It can be fun, but it's such a small piece of PR-fun that it does not really matter.
I accept not having this tiny piece of fun, but what I get is that the WHOLE team is now encouraged to use mumble without being afraid that the enemy will hear you.
Its a good deal imo.

DUDE!
All mumblers in the same channel is how its done! I mean, just use VOIP if you dont want the enemy to hear you.....but in my book, if the enemy can hear you then thats just another level of realism
I mean seriously, do real world conventional armies just walk around silently when enemies are nearby? True, they use hand signals....and whisper. Unfortunately mumble cant do that. But I don't care! hah

Problem is Chris, that information over load is a real danger.
I'm not worried about accidentally giving info to the enemy, just don't say things like "the firebase in delta 7" or some stupid ****.
But if ur a squad leader, you can have the commander, other squad leaders, ur own squad, and nearby blues talking. That is HARD to keep clear in ur mind. I sometimes mute mumble for a second if that is happening.
But during a firefight, put nearby enemies on top of that, and its bloody impossible!
Mumble is a clever program, and I'm willing to bet it can satisfy both camps.

Eh stress handling is different for all people. I mean me personally, I have no trouble coordinating in an airstrike via mumble, and instructing blues to open fire on enemy at bearing xyz at the same time. I mean generally, when I have mumble, I'll only use Voip when I know enemy are near.
Or, I'll use mumble when enemy are near on the account that we both know each other are near. Then its fun just calling out names and taunts

Then close Mumble.

I'm sorry my friend but I regretfully disagree. I feel Mumble is being limited in its usage because people are afraid to use it anywhere close to the front lines. Take Ejod Desert for example, once you get around downtown, nobody uses mumble anymore because the enemy might here you. Come on! Thats like the whole map without mumble
I'm sure it would be realistic not to talk while the enemy is nearby, but how realistic is it to utilize your radio to communicate to a man standing three feet away from you?
*CHSSHH*Foxtrot Kilo, this is Yankee Man standing 3 ft to your left. Come in over*CHSSHH*
*CHSSHH*Yahnkee Man this is Foxtrot Kilo. Read you Lima Charlie. Over *CHSSHH*
*CHSSHH*Roger Foxtrot Kilo. Lets flank this wall to the right. Over*CHSSHH*
*CHSSHH*WILCO*CHSSHH*
IMO there should be seperate channels for each team. I'm sure most of the community can Alt+Tab out of game in order to change mumble channels if they get auotswitched. I can do it and sometimes I've only got 512MB of RAM.

Oh I don't know ... nothing better than a "How do you like them apples now ?!!" while you are giving them a good teabagging
Or "Eat NADE Sukkas!" a split second before it goes off is also quite satisfying

I only wish the maximum distance was lowered as well, to around 40 meters. Hopefully not hearing people ingame, and ingame people not hearing people not playing (unless it's FCP, ofc) would be implemented, as well as hopefully automatic serverchannel moving and Squad Leader channel moving. Those I guess are the biggest priorities, and harder to code I"m sure, having to get mumble to work hand in hand with BF2's information.

Or a whisper of 'fix bayonets' then a scream as you charge through the enemy position.
