'[R-DEV wrote:Undies;1171525']Mate, sorry to say it but Gaz is absolutely correct, heres what you are talking about:

Look at the difference in size, its much smaller than the one in the picture.
More to the point... When we gonna get this bad boy in the crewman kit?

Seriosuly who wants to take away the irons, this makes it alittle more fun to have choices if you want scope or not scope.

Besides BogusBoo alot of the scopes in the armies has some kind of CQB sigth something that isnt really feasibel in the vBF2 engine, so I ask why take away the irons, when they make the game more varied, Project reality from what I see you cant really just say its name is Projec reality so then it should be 100% reality, from what I see, it should be called Project "We want an amazing gameplay that is near realistic, but without killing all the fun, and have some gameplay mechanics that dosent really matter if isnt 100% reflected from reality"

So keep the irons long live the customization and the choice between irons and scope :D

Any chance your refering to something that looks a bit like this? Slightly shorter than a standard L85 but longer than an L22?

If so, I've only ever seen them for airsoft, like the one in the picture, and I have doubts about if they're issued in the army.

Think that one in the pic is real Dizakui.

I am pretty sure the airsoft version (picy below) is fictional. What it is, is a LSW handguard on a L85 with a slightly shorter barrel.
Image

Having seen and handled the new L85a2s when on a FAM visit to the Land warfare centre they were just a new optics mount and handguard on the same weapons system.

They are slightly shorter (not much though) by a cm or two or something. No idea why :)

I have a feeling that until you produce a picture of a serving member holding one up with a copy of todays paper people aren't going to believe this one.

...

I am saying the new L85A2 (Which my Sergeant told me was developed for the Royal Armoured Corps, and I had no reason to doubt him because he's usually right) is a Cm or 2 shorter than the L85A2 with no Rails, or at least feels like it.

Its not fictional, but it never left the prototype stages. A handful were produced in the early '90s, allegedly for potential export customers in Asia (the thinking being that smaller soldiers would need a smaller version of the already quite dinky L85A1, but longer than the already developed [what would become the] L22)

The L85A2 was chucked out the door by H&K just in time for us going into Iraq in 2003. The L22A1 is the shortened version of the A2, that, as you have said, was developed for (but not limited to) armoured units such as the RAC (so what your Sgt has said is correct as far as you have said above).

The latest upgrades to the L85A2 added the RIS, foregrip and ACOG (with custom optic rail due to the original NATO fitting). The SUSAT and original green plastic handgrip have been replaced.

The L22A1 is around 2/3 the length of the L85A2. It's around 5 inches shorter, not 2 cm :) If it were, there'd be a serious design fault in that armoured units may aswell use the L85A2 for the sake of 1-2cm :)

Yes but knowing British Defense procurement and the decisions the MOD makes it wouldnt have surprised me.

"That one centimeter saved is absolutely key to our tank drivers bla bla bunny bla"

load of awesome people with Bob Ainsworth and Lord Foulkes being the biggest.
