What we have to remember is that the "sniper" is a special kit, it have a special weapon and special equipment. The sniper will use the M82 cause it can take down special targets that the other kits doesn't have the chance to do. All the Norwegian "sharpshooters = sniper/marksman" use different weapons, some of them use HK 417, M82 and other weapons. I was watching a post on Forsvaret.no | _Utvalgt.no a web page for the Norwegians that have to serve mandatory military service (pass worded page). On that page some one had asked what "snipers" we use. The officer that answered the question told, that the MN 149 will be removed, and they will use M82, HK 417 etc instead.

The HK 417 use the same caliber as the G3 if I'm not wrong, so we will use that one as marksman and M82 as our special sniper kit...

Never mind that some of the classes are outdated, though.

all current sniperrifles in PR use 7,62 which is the caliber of the G3, and HK417 as well, the difference is just, which kind of bullets is used (snipers are using heavier bullets)

But why do the Norwegian Forces need a heavier caliber sniper rifle, while all the other factions are using 7.62 rifles? And what are those 'special targets'? I don't think the sniper is supposed to have an anti-material role in PR. The AWM (also in use with NF, afaik) would do the job of killing inf. at long range just as well, wouldn't it? And, of course, this weapon will attract a lot of nubs, no doubt. The idea of running around with a .50 cal sniper rifle (and also the fact that it'll be the only one in PR) will make them go all nuts, and do whatever they can to get that rifle. Why do you want the M82 so badly, if you're the only faction who wants to use it.

The thing is that we want some variation from others, whats the point with different forces/factions if they all use the same gear?

the 50. cal sniper isn't that special, the only bonus is that you can kill peoples easier in vehicles, and its better on the Norwegian maps, where we have huge open "snow" fields etc.

I can still not understand why so many dislike the rifle? its well used in HV and panser bataljonen etc.(Norwegian home guard, and the Armour battalion).

Shall we just leave the weapons cause someone are n00bish and doesn't can play the game? To say it like that, the MGs are away more effective and "overpowered" than the snipers on PR, I use to call the MG "automatic sniperman"

How about letting the player choose?

Left click - anti personnel rifle
Right click - the M82

Just give it larger bullet drop (heavier round) so it will be harder to hit targets unless you have actually practiced with it.

much more improtant, could we stop this unrealistc balancing suggestions? i mean, a .50cal sniper should not be nerfed in points of range, since its made for extreme range, but hey, it does not matter anyway, since the devs will not allow the M82 as sniper rifle, and because they decide how to balance the mod

as previously mentioned, this is a discussion between the Norwegian Faction-team and the DEVs. However feel free to express you opinion on the matter, but know that the NF-team are quite determined.

Why even talk about balance?
Taliban vs. US/GB/etc its not balanced, M249/MG3/PKM/etc. vs SKS rifles and PKM with out zoom?

Most of the balance are in the assets the teams have available on a map, Planes, Helicopters, APCs, Cars, Tanks, etc...

A better weapon can be solved with one fewer vehicle on the other team...

The word "balance" doesn't fit for Project Reality... Nothing is 100% balanced in the real life, neither on PR as it is today.

Is it possible to make the M82 have a sick long depolyment time? Say it takes 10-15 seconds to deploy, and about the same to redeploy. This is realistic since it is not a primary weapon and more like a tool.

You knew that you could expect such a response from people. Every M82 suggestion thread gets locked by the mods, and most of the community knows why. If the Norwegian Forces would implant it, other people would suggest the M82 for other factions too, with the argument that the Norwegian Forces have it implanted too. So yeah, you are creating kind of a stir, so it's normal that people start arguing about it, you can't blame them for that. Furthermore, whats the use of this thread if people aren't allowed to discuss the media you displayed? Just get rid of this thread, if you don't allow discussions about it...
